Right now, HHCLA is being forced to say goodbye to some deeply valued staff and reduce services that some of LA’s most marginalized rely on every day.
The impact of these losses reaches far beyond our walls. Our Care Campus has been a place where people in Skid Row can walk through the door and find care without judgment. A shower, laundry, health care, harm reduction services, housing support, case management, pet care, and perhaps most importantly, people who know their names and care whether they come back tomorrow.
We are devastated for the extraordinary staff who have poured themselves into this work, many of whom bring their own lived experience and deep connection to the communities we serve. And we are devastated for our clients, who deserve MORE places to turn for care, safety and connection, not fewer.
Our jobs program created 3,800 jobs. Real income, real pathways forward for people too often shut out of opportunity. Today, that program no longer exists. The loss is staggering.
In the midst of all of this, we are incredibly grateful for everyone who has stood beside HHCLA, spoken up for our work, and reminded our community that these services and these lives matter deeply.
For 40 years, HHCLA has shown up for people too often pushed aside, overlooked or left without somewhere to turn. That commitment has not changed. And it will not change.
We will continue to meet people where they are. We will continue to lead with compassion, dignity and care. And we will continue to stand alongside the communities we have been honored to serve for four decades.
