🏛️ California lawmakers have 3 months left to determine which bills will become law. So far, they have killed 6 of Courage California's progressive priority bills, including:

🔸 AB 1157: The Affordable Rent Act
🔸 AB 1900: The California Guaranteed Health Care for All Act
🔸 SB 1422: The Medi-Cal Access Restoration Act

20 of Courage's priority bills could still become law, including bills that would help address the housing crisis, mitigate the harms of HR 1 in California, and more.

📣 These bills NEED your help! Tell your state lawmakers to break from the status quo and support these progressive bills to help California's struggling working families.

We’ve made it to the middle of the year, and so far it feels like:
🤖 AI and data centers are taking over
🧊 ICE is only getting stronger
🩻 People are feeling the effects of the cuts to Medicaid and SNAP

➕more

⭐️ BUT that’s not where the story ends⭐️.

Halfway IS NOT the whole way, and we still have 6 months to create change this year.

Keep showing up and speaking out for your communities.✊🏽

Keep the pressure on your federal and state representatives to defund ICE and pass bills in
California that will protect our most vulnerable while benefiting all Californians.

⚠️ Over 600,000 people in California are at risk of losing CalFresh because of Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill." But did you know California lawmakers have the power to protect food assistance 🤔?

🏛️ AB 2299 would establish a state-funded food benefits program to help Californians who lose CalFresh because of the H.R.1 changes. ☎️ Call your state legislators and ask them to SUPPORT AB 2299!

💬 Here's what you need to know if you receive CalFresh in California:

🔸 Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" (H.R. 1) implemented a 20hr per week work requirement for SNAP benefits.
🔸 The new federal work requirements apply to able-bodied adults without dependents (ages 18-64).
🔸 Exemptions exist for people with disabilities, caretakers, and more.

❓ To learn more about the new work requirements, visit cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/calfresh/abawd or call the CalFresh Benefits Helpline 1-877-847-3663.

House Republicans and President Trump signed H.R.1 in July 2025, and Americans are experiencing the impacts from increased ICE presence and the defunding of the USPS, NASA, PBS, and more.

Healthcare and Food Assistance were cut by over $1 trillion to make way for tax cuts and provisions for billionaires and corporations.

Lawmakers in California have the opportunity to defend Californians who rely on federally funded healthcare and food assistance by passing these bills to safeguard Medi-Cal and SNAP (CalFresh) against H.R.1.

⭐️ Last Tuesday, Courage California-endorsed progressive candidates Mai Vang (CD 7, Sacramento) and Randy Villegas (CD 22, Central Valley) won top-two spots in their primary election races and advanced to the Midterm Elections on November 3, 2026.

🗣️ Both Vang and Villegas ran on Medicare for All, reforming our broken immigration system and providing a pathway to citizenship, making corporate polluters pay, and taxing the wealthy— and WON their primary races.

📣 Californians are demanding more from Democrats, and these two progressive wins are proof of the courage needed to win back the House.

Too bad corporate donations and dark money aren't as visible as Venmo transactions 🫤. But if they were, we imagine they'd look something like this 🎁➡️💸.

Since Trump re-entered office, the tech bros have been quick to donate to his inauguration fund and expensive ballroom, and have spent big money to lobby the federal government.

✅ And it's paid off! Companies like Palantir, Amazon, and Google have collected new or increased federal contracts since Trump took office.

From Delaney Hall in NJ to the California City Detention Center in CA the conditions within Trump’s concentration camps are being bravely spoken out by the immigrants who are experiencing them.

Detained immigrants are facing criminal and negligent treatment with no due process, and it’s our job to hear them, to support them, fight to demand their rights, and not look away! ✊🏽

Immigrant rights bills in California are currently in the process of becoming laws, which would:
🏛️Protect immigrants from ICE while at their court hearings
🚫Ban tax breaks for ICE/DHS contractors
💰Tax private prisons used as detention centers

📣 Courage-endorsed Councilwoman Jessie Lopez overcame heavily funded opposition to advance to the general election in AD68— proof that Californians want progressive leaders & bold solutions for the issues impacting working families today 👏🏽!

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-06-11/commentary-progressive-oc-latina-pol-beats-back-haters-again

🔥 In 2023, Councilmember Lopez's progressive stance on issues like rent control, police accountability, immigrant rights, and more made her the target of a recall attempt fueled by Santa Ana's police union and apartment owners 💰.

📰 From the Los Angeles Times:

"With Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento easily winning reelection and Unite Here Local 11 co-president Ada Briceño currently coming up short in her bid to represent the 67th Assembly District, which includes parts of Los Angeles County, Lopez may be the sole O.C. Latino progressive running in November for a seat beyond the local level."
