Plug In America drives change. We accelerate the shift to plug-in vehicles powered by clean, affordable, domestic electricity.

Plug In America is a coalition of RAV4-EV drivers, former lessees of Honda EV+, GM EV1, Ford Ranger and Ford Th!nk City electric cars, and advocates of energy independence and clean air. Prior to 2008, we functioned as a loose network of individuals organized around various websites like dontcrush.com and saveEV1.com. We then coalesced into a chapter of the Electric Auto Association. On January 2, 2008, Plug In America became a separate California non-profit corporation. On August 18, 2008, we became an official 501(c)(3) public charity!

This one’s for all the parents, older siblings, and caregivers out there! As school is back in session, and we're spending more time in the drop-off zone or hanging out in the bleachers while your kid is at practice, charging may not always be top of mind. Especially if you don’t have access to one at home.

The good news? Public charging is growing and is more accessible than you may think. Research the places you frequent this fall, see if there’s charging access available nearby, and plug in! So next time you're sitting in a parking lot, waiting 30 minutes after coach said practice would be over, at least you have a full charge. 😉🏈

Bidirectional charging opens up two seriously cool possibilities:

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H): If the power goes out, your EV can keep your fridge, lights, and WiFi running. No generator needed! A full EV battery can power an average home for several days.

Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G): On a bigger scale, EVs plugged in during off-peak hours can send power back to the grid when demand spikes. This helps prevent strain during heat waves or high-usage periods, all without building new power plants.

Bottom line: EVs aren't just cleaner transportation. They're part of the solution for a more resilient, flexible energy grid!
