What does a chanter need to know beyond the notes on the page?

In Episode 9 of Ethos & Yphos, we sit down with Rev. Fr. Peter Samore to discuss the Typicon, the responsibility of chanters to understand the structure and purpose of the services, and the importance of accurate and consistent liturgical translations.

Fr. Peter also shares an important development from the Antiochian Archdiocese: the Department of Liturgics is moving the Archdiocese’s variable hymnography to the translations published by Holy Transfiguration Monastery, helping establish greater quality and uniformity across its worship services.

We also explore the close collaboration between the Departments of Liturgics and Sacred Music, and the shared responsibility of providing the Church with texts and music that faithfully serve her worship.

Harp of David: A Collection of Chanted Psalms will be released digitally on August 18th on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and other major streaming platforms.

Recorded live in Dallas, the album brings together six psalms expressing praise, repentance, suffering, deliverance, spiritual longing, and steadfast trust in God. Chanted primarily in English, Harp of David reflects the depth and breadth of prayer found throughout the Psalter.

The album will be available on all major streaming platforms. A physical audio CD, beautifully presented in a full-color jewel case, will also be available for preorder soon. More information is coming shortly.
