Southern Announces 4th Annual Sgt. Cory Maynard Memorial Scholarship Softball Tournament

LOGAN, WV - August 26, 2026 - There is still time to gather a team and take part in the 4th Annual Sgt. Cory Maynard Memorial Scholarship Softball Tournament, set for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Chief Logan State Park New Softball Fields.

The annual tournament honors the legacy of Sgt. Cory Maynard while raising funds for the Sgt. Cory Maynard Memorial Scholarship, which helps provide educational opportunities for students at Southern WV Community & Technical College.

The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m., and teams are encouraged to register now for a day of friendly competition, community spirit, and support for a meaningful cause.

Tournament Details:

Date: Saturday, September 12, 2026
First Pitch: 10 a.m.
Location: Chief Logan State Park New Softball Fields
Entry Fee: $200 per team
Roster: 11 players per team

Teams will compete for bragging rights and the opportunity to take home this year's championship trophy, all while supporting a scholarship that makes a difference in the lives of Southern students.

“Each team that participates helps us honor Sgt. Cory Maynard's legacy while supporting students as they pursue their educational and career goals,” said Tammy Toppings, event organizer.

Whether you're returning for another year or putting together a team for the first time, organizers encourage participants to sign up as soon as possible.

Three Generations of Southern Pride!

Southern West Virginia Community & Technical College is honored to celebrate a family legacy spanning nearly five decades.

Pictured are three generations of Southern graduates:

Mary Baldwin – Class of 1979
Kasey Baldwin – Class of 2011
Draven Donahoe – Early College Academy Class of 2026

In a second photo, their diplomas showcase the evolution of Southern through the years, each featuring a different college logo and representing a unique chapter in the institution's history.

The photos were shared by Mike Baldwin, who served Southern for 37 years and expressed his pride in the accomplishments of his wife, daughter, and grandson.
