8 Fridays. 2 Great Novels. 1 Amazing Book Club Experience.
We are thrilled to announce our second AFTER SCHOOL CLUB offering at the Y - 'Young Readers' Kids' Book Club!!
The club will meet Fridays beginning September 18th through November 13th from 3:45-4:45pm. (excluding October 2nd during Forest Festival).
📚 ABOUT THE CLUB
In Young Readers Kids’ Book Club, instructor Linda Mullenax will introduce students ages 9–12 to two award-winning novels: Summer of the Mariposas and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
These two stories bring very different writing styles, reading levels, characters, and genres to the club, giving young readers plenty to explore, compare, and talk about!
Each week, students will be assigned independent reading before returning to the club for open discussion and interactive learning activities designed to bring the stories to life, strengthen reading comprehension and literary skills, and encourage students to think more deeply about what they read.
Most importantly, we want this to be a place where young readers can share ideas, ask questions, connect with other readers, and discover just how much fun a great book can be!
📕 SUMMER OF THE MARIPOSAS - Five sisters. One unexpected discovery. One unforgettable journey. Inspired by Mexican folklore and The Odyssey, Summer of the Mariposas takes readers on a magical adventure filled with family, mystery, and plenty of danger!
🦊 FANTASTIC MR. FOX - Meet Mr. Fox—a clever, daring troublemaker who always seems to have another trick up his sleeve! When three angry farmers decide they’ve finally had enough of his nightly adventures, an outrageous battle of wits begins. Funny, fast-paced, and packed with personality, Fantastic Mr. Fox is a story that makes reading fun while giving our young readers plenty to discuss.
