ARTICLE OF THE DAY: American Society of Railway Artists member Alice Bottrill's exhibit of railroad art closes on November 19, so if you are in the Harrison, British Columbia, area, make tracks to the Agassiz-Harrison Museum for a look-see. Don't be surprised if a train or two makes an appearance since the Museum occupies a building that still serves Canadian Pacific and VIA Rail. PS: If you know rail fans or railroad art collectors in southwestern British Columbia, send them a heads-up.: Trains at the Station: Agassiz-Harrison Museum Hosts Steam Train Painting Exhibit

RAILROAD ART OF THE DAY -- Part I: This two-part presentation of works by American Society of Railway Artists Founding Member Roger Watt requires an explanation by the artist: "As are all my drawings, this work is rendered in graphite on Bristol Board. It measures 11.5" x 17.5" and was drawn this year. It depicts an almost derelict Canadian National 4-6-4 locomotive #47, which I happened upon at Steamtown in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 2012. As two drawings of this loco were featured (and sold) in my 2014 solo show at the O K Harris Gallery in New York, I’ve always had a soft spot for it and I consequently thought that its corroding state would be perfect for my experimental 'new take' on photorealism. The 'negativity' has been very well received by my galleries but to avoid any negative connotations, I titled it “Inversion". It is now with Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts in New York and I’m working on a second (featuring a British locomotive) for The Plus One Gallery in London.”

RAILROAD ART OF THE DAY -- Part II: About the second work, Watt says, "This is “Variation", again measuring 11.5" x 17.5", a further development of my 'negative' concept and shortly on its way to The Plus One Gallery in London. It features the ex-LMS Stanier Coronation class Pacific #6233 “Duchess of Sutherland” which I photographed at Carlisle (Cumbria, north west England) when it was on a steam special in the summer of 2009.”

ASRA member Charles Bednarik's submitted this recent work to the Society's Facebook gallery for your consideration . He notes of it: "The painting makes one feel that the Union Pacific Big Boy, pacing a storm on the Wyoming plains, is working to keep on schedule." Titled "Thunder on the Plains," it was created using watercolor on Arches 300 pound watercolor paper, and measures 24" x 30" unframed. See more of the artist's work at http://flic.kr/s/aHsmR7NCZY.

Artist: James Mann (www.jamesmannartfarm.com)

Work: CPR McAdam Station NB, Watercolor, 12" x 20"

This, the third and final expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railroad (CPR) Station and Hotel in McAdam, New Brunswick, was completed in 1901, and is the third distinct railroad station erected in the town. The impressive structure was designed by Montreal architect Edward Maxwell, in a massive "Chateau" style, and it became a National Historic Site of Canada in 1976. Canadian Pacific gave up the station to VIA Rail in 1978, and VIA Rail discontinued passenger service through McAdam in 1994. Presently the station and hotel complex is jointly owned and maintained by the Government of New Brunswick, Parks Canada and The McAdam Historical Restoration Commission and sees use as a museum and reception venue. Short line, New Brunswick Southern Railway (NBSR) runs through these days. The artist reports visiting and wandering around the premises in 2016, but did not go inside, as there was a large dining event in progress. This is the West facade, viewed from Saunders Road.

A giclee print measuring 7" x 12" on 11x14" paper is available for purchase at https://www.jamesmannartfarm.com/painting/cpr-adams-station-nb
