What will it take to rebuild the North American pharmaceutical supply chain?

That was the focus of the recent CvilleBioHub Speaker Series in Charlottesville, VA, where Civica’s Sunil Potdar joined leaders from industry, government and academia to discuss how we can create a more resilient and reliable pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem.

With nearly 100 people participating, the conversation underscored an important point: strengthening the pharmaceutical supply chain will require collaboration across sectors—and a commitment to building domestic capacity for the medicines patients depend on.

Every patient deserves reliable access to essential medicines—regardless of where they live. Rural and critical access hospitals often face unique challenges during drug shortages, making it harder to provide uninterrupted care to their communities.

Civica’s Rural Hospital Program is designed to help eligible hospitals gain access to a more reliable supply of essential generic medications through a nonprofit, mission-driven model.

Civica Rx is thrilled to be part of a new effort that aligns with our commitment to protecting patients from persistent drug shortages. Virginia’s Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (APM) Tech Hub, Alliance for Building Better Medicine (ABBM), has secured $15.97 million in federal funding from the Economic Development Administration to launch its groundbreaking end-to-end commercialization project. This initiative will establish a fully integrated, end-to-end U.S. supply chain for four critical sterile injectable medicines.

Together with Phlow Corporation, Occam Systems, ABBM’s lead entity Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) and more than 55 Alliance for Building Better Medicine partners, this effort will help advance a fully domestic pharmaceutical supply chain designed to strengthen America’s healthcare resilience.
