Don't forget our fantasy submission window is closing soon!

The DragonComet Short Story Contest is for science fiction and fantasy short stories, for students grades 5-8, 9-12, and adults (each their own division). Short story length cannot be longer than 10,000 words.

The Aether Illustration Contest is for science fiction and fantasy illustrations, for students grades 5-8, 9-12, and adults (each their own division). Maximum file size is 20mb.

You can submit one (1) fantasy short story and one (1) science fiction short story, and one (1) fantasy illustration and one (1) science fiction illustration.

Fantasy submission deadline for short stories and illustrations: April 15, 2024
Science fiction submission opening for short stories and illustrations: April 16-May 31, 2024

What is the Aether Illustration contest?

The contest is a fantasy and science fiction illustration contest that publishes winners in the Sibyl's Scriptorium yearly anthology. We took a break for a few years, and we're eager to be back!

The fantasy division is open to submissions right now through April 15th, while the science fiction division is open April 16th-May 31st! You can submit ONE illustration for each division.

Additionally, we have 3 age divisions, grades 5th-8th, grades 9th-12th, and 18+ years old.

What is the DragonComet Short Story Contest?

DragonComet is a fantasy and science fiction short story contest founded in 2002. It's the first of the Sibyl's Scriptorium contests, and we're so excited to bring it back!

Early contest winners include names like Jessica Day George, Eric James Stone, and John M. Olsen.

The contest has 3 different age divisions: 5th-8th grade, 9-12th grade, and 18+ older writers.

The fantasy division is currently open for submissions until April 15th, and the science fiction division is open April 15th-May 31st. Submit now and join the ranks of the greats before us!

How many times can you submit to our contests?

One entry PER division PER contest.

This means that right now you can submit one fantasy short story to DragonComet and one illustration to Aether right now! Then after April 15th, you can submit one science fiction short story to DragonComet and one science fiction illustration to Aether!

Everyone! We have contest age groups for 5-8th graders, 9-12th graders, and adults! Just select your age group when you enter your submission!

We're excited to announce the restart of our Dragoncoment Short Story Contest and Aether Illustration Contest!

Currently the fantasy division for short stories and illustration is open for submissions for age groups Young School Age (5th-8th grade), School Age (9th-12th grade) and Adult (18+).

We’re excited to announce that Sibyl’s Scriptorium is reopening for the 2022 contest year!

During the down time SibScript has reorganized and revamped the contests. The new contest year will be comprised of 2 entry terms: one for fantasy entries and one for science fiction entries. Winners will be selected from each of the terms and published in Sibyl’s Scriptorium volume 5. If you have something that could qualify as both SF&F pick the term you feel it matches best.

The DragonComet Short Story Contest and Æther illustration contests are officially accepting entries for the Fantasy entry term beginning today, October 1, 2021.

The Science Fiction entry term will open on March 1, 2022 and end April 30, 2022.

We’re excited to be back and can’t wait to see what creations are ahead.
