✊🏿 Celebrating (25–31 August) 🤎

ILCA stands with Black families, IBCLCs, advocates, and community leaders worldwide during Black Breastfeeding Week.

Founded to highlight the specific barriers Black families face in infant feeding and maternal care, this observance focuses on closing healthcare gaps, expanding access to skilled lactation care, and honoring community leadership.

Every family deserves compassionate, evidence-based, and culturally congruent support. This week, and throughout the year, ILCA remains committed to:
✨ Supporting Black IBCLCs and lactation care providers who lead crucial clinical and community care worldwide
✨ Addressing healthcare disparities that impact infant and maternal health outcomes across the global diaspora
✨ Expanding access to skilled care so every parent has the resources needed to reach their feeding goals
✨ Uplifting community-driven solutions that center safety, dignity, and family well-being

To IBCLCs and healthcare providers everywhere: quality care begins with listening to families, respecting their lived experiences, and advocating for clinical environments where every parent receives complete, respectful support.

As a global association representing IBCLCs and lactation care providers worldwide, ILCA is proud to recognize Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Week.

AANHPI communities encompass a rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and birthing traditions—both in their ancestral lands and across the global diaspora. While these heritage traditions carry deep wisdom around infant feeding, families often face unique systemic barriers, language gaps, and a lack of culturally representative care.

True lactation equity requires that every family receives care that is not only evidence-based, but also culturally congruent, respectful, and accessible.

This week, we honor and amplify the community leaders, IBCLCs, and healthcare advocates who are working tirelessly to:
✨ Reclaim & center traditional feeding practices
✨ Bridge health disparities and linguistic barriers in care settings
✨ Expand representation among skilled lactation professionals

Wherever you practice in the world, equity starts with listening, learning, and championing care that honors every family’s heritage.

Join us in uplifting AANHPI families and lactation leaders this week and every week!

What makes the IBCLC the "gold standard" in lactation care?

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLCs®) complete rigorous clinical training, sit for a comprehensive board examination, and adhere to strict evidence-based standards to support complex lactation needs.

Whether managing complex clinical issues, assisting parents navigating d-MER, or facilitating milk expression for a preterm infant in the NICU, an IBCLC’s specialized expertise is unmatched. By integrating IBCLCs across healthcare systems, we strengthen the Warm Chain, improve maternal-infant health outcomes, and elevate public health standards globally.
