Cat Care Society

Cat Care Society Our mission is to be a safe and enriching place for all cats on their journey to a loving home. Located in Lakewood, CO
(256)

Cat Care Society is a non-profit, limited-admission cat shelter founded in 1981 to improve the quality of life for cats in need in the Denver metro area. Our unique and free-roaming approach views all cats as worthy, regardless of their age or abilities. We are non-discriminatory in our love for cats and take in cats that may not have a chance anywhere else. This includes cats that have tested pos

itive for FIV or FeLV, or have been diagnosed with chronic health conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease. We pride ourselves in finding these cats loving homes and educating cat owners on the care requirements for cats with special needs. We provide a temporary refuge for cats in need until an appropriate home can be found for each. Veterinary care, premium diet, and human interaction are lovingly provided by dedicated staff and volunteers. Approximately 800 cats come into our care each year! As we receive no government funding, Cat Care Society is supported by a number of loyal volunteers, donors, and partners, without whom we could not operate. Our staff and board of directors work together to ensure that every cat receives an enriching environment and the opportunity to find a home where they can flourish.

Camden is the sweetest and most playful 10-year-old lady you will meet! Her favorite pastime activities include: playing in the sink, working hard on her biscuit making (taking it so seriously she puts all four paws into it!), being carried like a baby, and hugging her feet close while she snoozes! Camden's ideal home will be one that can continue her medical care in the home and help continue to manage her diabetes. CCS staff will make things easy and go over in detail how to care for diabetes in cats.

Camden is thriving in a loving foster home! To learn more about her and set up a meet and greet, please email [email protected]. You’ll receive an overview of any medical or behavioral disclaimers to review before scheduling an in-person meeting.

We have an from Margaret who adopted Libby (now Iris) in April 2026. Margaret came to CCS looking for a shy and timid cat.

“She has been doing great. It’s awesome to see her be more brave and curious everyday.

“She has been doing great with all her habits. She loves to look out the window and loves belly rubs. She is still a biscuit making pro and has recently discovered she likes sleeping under the covers and chasing her tail. She is super playful and gets so many zoomies.

“I’m so glad I adopted a scared kitty. She was housed in your guys’ little white building, and when I first met her she was so scared and it’s been amazing to see her open up. Thank you for everything you guys do. This is my second time adopting from Cat Care society and it’s a place I’ll always recommend.”

Thank you, Margaret!

Have you adopted from CCS in the past? We'd love to hear how it's going! Find other stories and the form here→ https://catcaresociety.org/adoptions/success-stories/

Cats are so much more than cute companions; they can be emotional lifelines, especially during challenging periods of life. In times of upheaval, a cat’s presence can offer stability, purpose, and unconditional love that many people rely on to stay resilient.

Unfortunately, many people feel they have no choice but to give up their cats during difficult periods in their lives. For cats, surrender means more than losing their home, it also means losing the family and routine that helps them feel secure. This sudden disruption can be deeply traumatic, often causing emotional and physical stress for the cat while leaving the owner with grief, guilt, and heartbreak. It’s a painful outcome for both.

(Note: We understand that there are times when surrendering a cat is the best option. When that happens, we warmly accept those cats without judgment and provide them with veterinary care, a premium diet, enrichment, and loving human interaction.)

Because challenges in life are so common—and often temporary—Cat Care Society provides community support and proactive programs that address the root causes of surrender.
