Dear CCPA Members,
I hope you are doing well. I am reaching out to invite you to participate in a new interest group that will explore whether an update to CCPA’s historical contexts is needed, and if so, what that update should include.
We are intentionally seeking a wide range of voices for this effort. We welcome participation from Indigenous and Native members, students, new professionals, seasoned practitioners, academics, agency archaeologists, and CRM professionals. A diversity of perspectives will help ensure that any recommendations we develop are thoughtful, inclusive, and reflective of the communities we serve.
Several members have already shared excellent ideas, including ensuring that any new or revised contexts are born‑digital, updating terminology to reflect current professional standards, strengthening collaboration with tribes, and incorporating new information from recent archaeological work across the state. These early suggestions highlight the value of bringing together a broad group of contributors.
The goal of this interest group is to gather perspectives, identify priorities, and outline what a potential update might look like. This is an exploratory effort, and all levels of experience are welcome.
If the interest group determines that an update is warranted and the membership supports moving forward, the next step will be to establish an ad hoc committee to develop recommendations and guide the update process.
If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please reply by Tuesday, May 19th to [email protected]. I would be glad to include you in the conversation.
Thank you for your continued commitment to protecting and understanding Colorado’s cultural resources.
Warmly,
Jasmine Saxon
CCPA President
