Like putting kids to bed it's a challenge at times. This week I did have a dad come and pick up chair and baby items for their family. Then I made a trip to Hope House and brought them blankets and clothes for them to put into their shop, where their teen moms can shop. It was great to see Lisa Steven's and reconnect in such a wonderful facility. This is a wonderful nonprofit to support!
Yesterday, my friend Max and I loaded up his car and took blankets, clothes and diapers to a church in Arvada that will ship items to Ukrainen families. It was a great feeling especially because we met a couple that had just arrived in Colorado from Ukraine. They had to fly out of Germany. The picture is with the couple and the pastor of the church.
Our last week's will be busy, next week meeting with Colorado National Guard representative and wrapping things up. I'll have a few more updates as I go along. 😊

MOMMY ROCKS ANNOUNCEMENT. Twenty one years ago this month Mommy Rocks became a project of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center. On the following month, on Mother's Day we gave away our first 2 rocking chairs. With all the changes happening, since COVID, within the agencies we've worked with all these years, I have made the decision to put Mommy Rocks 'to bed', this coming May! We have served to date (April 2023) 1,209 families in our Colorado communities as well as our Colorado military facilities.
We have been blessed to have been supported by family and friend both locally and in many other states. The families we served were blessed by your gifts of money and in-kind goods.
Our web site will be coming down and but I am keeping my cell number. Please feel free to keep in touch.

So a couple days ago my friend, Kay, brought me 5 booster chairs. A week ago Friday this mom called me about needing a high chair. I did not get her message till today.... Love my phone🙄. So today, I was able to give her, not a rocking chair but, a booster! Things usually always work out... We just need to have faith!

It's with a heavy heart that we let you know that Gerri Schiel has passed away. Gerri, our most dedicated volunteer and friend. Sewing hundreds of blankets, burp pads, crib sheets, never stopped creating. She joined me in serving hundreds of moms over the years. Our longest serving board member and volunteer. Gerri became part of Mommy Rocks over 17 years ago. On a personal note Gerri and family have been part of our extended 'family' for many, many years. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. 🙏❤️

This morning we shipped 4 chairs to Schriever Air Force Base. They needed more but due to price hikes (well over $200) and lack of supply at pre-pandemic prices, we are unable to meet all requests. We have been able to meet the needs of moms locally to date. We no longer maintain a post office box so message me if you'd like to make a donation I'll send address.

No-Cost Preschool Enrolling Now at Jefferson County Head Start

Jefferson County Head Start is enrolling for the 2022-23 school year for NO-COST preschool. We have locations in Arvada and Wheat Ridge. Full-day and half-day sessions are available. Children are not required to be potty-trained. After-school care is available for working families (small fee or CCAP required for after-school care). SNAP and TANF recipients automatically qualify. Our office is open in the summer Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Apply online at www.jeffco.us/head-start or call 720-497-7900.

An update: This week we have ordered 10 rocking chairs shipped to our military families. Mommy Rocks has happily been able to do this for the last several years. Since COVID our funds have been dwindling. We've been able to supply diapers and other needed items thanks to donations. New rocking chair prices have risen at least 40%. We are stocked right now with used rockers. This is our 21st year and I truly hope we can distribute chairs through the end of this year. I will keep you posted. Deb
