Dyer Property - Permanently Protected!
The 679-acre Dyer Property was purchased in 2022 by Jaike and Kristen Dyer. Jaike hunted in the area as a young adult and has fond memories of this part of Routt County.
The protected land features sagebrush and mountain shrublands as well as grass pastures. Over a mile of Smuin Gulch flows through the property as well. It is utilized by black bear, elk, moose, mountain lion, mule deer, and pronghorn. In addition, the property provides habitat for Columbian sharp-tailed grouse, greater sage-grouse, and northern leopard frog, all Colorado Species of Concern. The property abuts two additional Colorado Open Lands conservation easements totaling over 6,600 acres, adding to the benefits for wildlife and offering uninterrupted viewsheds to the public.
Jaike and Kristin Dyer commented, “We are seeking a conservation easement on our property because of our deep appreciation for the area’s natural beauty, wildlife, and open spaces. The land provides valuable habitat for native animals and contributes to the ecological health of the surrounding landscape. We want to ensure that these resources are protected from future development and preserved for generations to come. Our connection to this area goes beyond ownership. We believe conserving this property benefits the broader community. Open spaces help preserve the rural character of the area, which we look forward to calling home!”
Project partners include Natural Resources Conservation Service (a program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture) and Routt County Purchase of Development Rights.
