An Update on the Future of Bayou Writers’ Group
Since I (Riah) wasn’t able to attend the last meeting, and because a few of you have reached out with questions, I wanted to take a moment to clarify where the Bayou Writers’ Group is headed.
Starting this fall, our meetings will be held at The Charmed Page bookstore. This gives us a steady, welcoming home base. When we met at the library, we had to reserve rooms and get approval for each date, which sometimes made planning tricky. The bookstore allows us to plan ahead and create a space just for writers.
We’ve also applied for ChuckFest and, if selected, still plan on participating this October.
Beginning in January, The Charmed Page will officially carry the Bayou Writers’ torch with free monthly meetings, writers’ round tables, and specialized workshops. My long-term vision is to bring in guest speakers in 2025 and build toward a writers’ conference in summer 2026.
While attendance and volunteer support have been low, the Bayou Writers’ Group is not ending. It is entering a new chapter. By adapting, removing dues, and lightening the load, we can keep our group accessible, supportive, and focused on community.
I’m so grateful for everyone who has been part of Bayou Writers, past and present. This community has always been about lifting each other up, and I truly believe the best is still ahead of us. I’m excited for us to grow together in new ways. Here’s to fresh pages and new beginnings.
With gratitude and excitement for the future,
Riah Evely
Coordinator, Bayou Writers’ Group
