🌟 Champions of Trust: Kody Cannon 🌟

As we wrap up our Champions of Trust series, BBB Serving SW Louisiana is proud to recognize Kody Cannon, Legal Counsel to the BBB SWLA Board and Partner at Sigler, Arabie & Cannon, LLC/Arabie Land & Title, LLC.

For the past 3½ years, Kody has provided legal counsel to our Board while supporting BBB’s mission of advancing trust in the marketplace.

Kody has been with Sigler, Arabie & Cannon for 13 years, where his practice focuses primarily on business transactions, estate planning, successions, and related tax planning. He holds a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida and is certified by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization as an Estate Planning and Administration Specialist.

His legal career has also given him a firsthand perspective on why BBB’s mission matters. Kody has seen the financial—and sometimes deeply personal—impact that scams and unethical business practices can have on individuals and families. He believes consumers deserve to know which businesses operate honestly and reliably, and that businesses doing things the right way deserve to be recognized.

For Kody, serving BBB SWLA is also an opportunity to work alongside local leaders to make decisions that positively impact the community he calls home.

His commitment to Southwest Louisiana extends beyond BBB. Kody serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana and has previously served with Leadership Southwest Louisiana and the Calcasieu Community Clinic.

Outside of the office, Kody enjoys duck hunting, fishing, golf, and spending time with his wife, Toni, and daughters, Charlotte and Eliza.

💡 Fun Fact: At just 11 years old, Kody spent a month away from home participating in a Children’s International Summer Village in Norway!

🗣️ His advice to business owners:
Provide honest, reliable service, and you’ll be rewarded with loyalty, referrals, and a reputation that creates lasting success.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Don’t be fooled by “free” gas and grocery card postcards.

Scammers are using the mail to send official-looking postcards claiming recipients have qualified for valuable gas cards and grocery vouchers. The catch? You may be asked to pay a small processing, activation, shipping, or handling fee to claim the offer.

Once payment information is provided, consumers may face unauthorized charges, unwanted monthly subscriptions, or gift cards that never arrive.

Before responding:

✔️ Never pay an upfront fee to claim a prize or reward
✔️ Research the company independently at BBB.org
✔️ Don’t provide payment information under pressure
✔️ Monitor your bank and credit card statements
✔️ Protect your personal information

Received a suspicious postcard? Report it at BBB.org/ScamTracker. Your report can help warn others and identify emerging scam trends.
