That matters to us at Western Youth Services. We support children and families who may be navigating difficult circumstances, and we know that mental health and well-being are connected to so much of a child’s everyday life, including having opportunities to simply be a kid. That’s just one of the many reasons we run our Annual Toy Drive. A new toy can create an opportunity for play, connection, creativity, and joy during a season that can be especially difficult for families.

A child living with OCD may be carrying fears they find difficult to explain. Even when others can’t see what they’re experiencing, the distress can affect school, relationships, and everyday family life.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder can involve unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals. Some children may hide their symptoms because they feel embarrassed or worry they won’t be understood.

For families, educators, and other caring adults, responding with curiosity and compassion can help a young person feel heard. When concerns arise, a professional assessment can help clarify what’s happening and what support may be appropriate.

Today, we’re kicking off our 2026 Annual Toy Drive! We’re hoping to collect 2,000 new, unwrapped toys for children and families throughout Orange County. We’re launching the campaign earlier this year to ensure we have an ample amount of time to collect, organize, and distribute gifts to families before the holidays arrive.

You may know your child needs support and still feel unsure about where to begin. Finding a provider, understanding available services, and explaining what’s been happening can feel like a lot to navigate.

Western Youth Services’ Access Coordination team gives families in Orange County a place to start. Through One Door Any Door, our team listens to your needs and helps identify services within WYS or through community partners.

Today is World Mental Health Day, an opportunity to bring attention to mental health and the importance of access to care. At WYS, that means helping families understand their options and find support that fits their needs, starting with a conversation about what they’re experiencing.
