A Poem About the Gospel
By Patrick McCaskey
Christ Taught His Disciples About Riches

Matthew 19:23-30

Pete said the disciples left everything.
Jesus said they would receive even more.
Jesus on His throne will not be alone.
His followers will be with Him on thrones.

The so-called nondescript will be the first.
Gifts will be multiplied a hundredfold.
Cardinal George used to say, “If you give
to the poor, you won’t have to go to Hell.”

Follow Christ; show belief in a new world.
“New World” was the official newspaper
of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Sell subscriptions; get a day off from school.

In nineteen sixty-six, I was the “New
World” All-Area quarterback. Amen.

Matthew 19:3-12

A Poem About the Gospel
By Patrick McCaskey
The Navarre Bible notes are instructive.
“Mutual self-giving of the spouses,
Together with the procreation and
Education of children calls for
Indissolubility” of marriage.

From Vatican II, we also know that
“Thus a man and a woman, why by their
Compact of conjugal love ‘are no long-
er two, but one flesh’ render mutual
help and service to each other through an
intimate union of their persons and
their actions…the good of the children
impose total fidelity on the
spouses and…an unbreakable oneness…”

Four Hundred Ninety Times for Forgiveness

Matthew 18:21-35

Peter asked Jesus how many times did
A Poem about the Gospel
By Patrick McCaskey

He have to forgive his brother, seven?
Jesus replied, seventy times seven.
That works out to four hundred ninety times.

Jesus said that we should always forgive.
We need to receive and grant forgiveness.
We forgive because we are in God’s debt.
God gives infinite mercy to sinners.

After a servant had received forgiveness,
For a large debt, he became hard-hearted.
He did not forgive small debts of others.
He found it quite difficult to forgive.

Grandpa Halas lived to be eighty-eight
And he said, “Life is too short for grudges.”

God Sent the Apostles on a Mission

Matthew 10:7-13

From the Navarre Bible commentary,
A Poem About the Gospel
By Patrick McCaskey

We know that “Jesus is training His twelve
Apostles for their mission, which” the Church
Continues until The Second Coming.

Jesus said that God’s Kingdom had come.
That was the message of the Apostles.
Jesus Christ performed many miracles.
The Apostles went forth and did likewise.

Christ was detached from material things.
The Apostles were to imitate Christ.
Jesus gave them a sense of urgency
To give up worrying about their needs.

Jesus gave the Apostles the treasure
Of peace. They gave peace when they were welcomed.

Christ Cured A Man And Called For Good Pastors

Matthew 9:32-38

Jesus cured a man who had been possessed.
Jesus proved that He was the Messiah.
The simple of heart saw His great power.
The twisted thinkers misinterpreted.

Matthew summarized the program of Christ.
The Apostles were sent to work God’s fields.
The plight of the people moved Jesus Christ.
He preached the Gospel and worked miracles.

Christ called His disciples to do the same.
Go preach the Gospel before every game.
Do the best that you can for God’s Glory.
His gifts make for a wonderful story.

We need more vocations for priests and nuns.
To do the work of God is more than fun.

Christ Sent Evil Powers to the Showers

Matthew 8:28-34

Jesus was more powerful than demons.
The demons thought that Jesus was early.
It was not time for God’s end victory.
Jesus Christ performed an exorcism.

A herd of pigs was eating heartily.
The demons asked to join them readily.
Jesus sent the demons obligingly.
Demons inside the pigs died instantly.

The herdsmen left the scene in a hurry.
It was too early to watch Steph Curry.
They told everything to everybody.
They asked Jesus to leave their neighborhood.

Teammate Ken Powers was a great leader.
He was dedicated and quite funny.

The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

Luke 2:41-52

Jesus Christ was full of wisdom and grace.
Jesus referred to God as His Father.

From the “Catechism of the Catho-
lic Church,” we know that “The finding of Je-
sus in the temple is the only e-
vent that breaks the silence of the Gospels
about the hidden years of Jesus” Christ.
