Today is National School Nurse Day!

A very special THANK YOU to the school nurse who helped shape our Interprofessional Education (IPE) simulation earlier this week—contributing to the pre-brief and debrief and sharing insight into real-world care. Your perspective made this learning opportunity more meaningful and authentic.

This pediatric diabetes simulation was built with community at the center. Students learned from people directly connected to caring for children with diabetes—including a parent who shared their perspective navigating care, and local provider Dr. Zach Spoehr-Labutta, who reviewed the scenario and provided updated clinical guidance.

NEOAHEC’s Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist collaborated with the OHSU School of Nursing in La Grande to create this simulation. OHSU nursing juniors (who are all part of the Oregon Rural Nurse Scholars grant) and OHSU Campus for Rural Health Education students in dental, physician assistant, and family medicine programs worked together to strengthen teamwork, communication, and patient-centered care using our high-fidelity pediatric manikin, Pedi.

We’re so grateful to our partners—and especially to school nurses—for the essential role you play in supporting student health education every single day.

We appreciate the OHSU School of Nursing in La Grande for not only allowing MedQuest campers to tour your simulation lab and skills lab, but to lead activities for them. Our students love to learn things like how Narcan works, what simulation is, how to take vitals, and so much more right in the classrooms used by real future nurses. Thank you to the OHSU School of Nursing!

Thank you to Roundhouse Foundation for helping MedQuest grow from one event to multiple programs, including Frontier MedQuest, Gorge MedQuest, and our MQ Day Camp field trips. Their support means more students can explore health careers across the region. MedQuest wouldn’t be possible without this expansion. Thank you, !
