📚 Happy National Read a Book Day!

Every great story begins with a single page—and every child deserves the opportunity to discover one that inspires, excites, and empowers them.

As we celebrate National Read a Book Day, Toys for Tots recognizes the power of putting books into the hands of children in need. Since 2008, our Toys for Tots Literacy Program has distributed more than 63 million books to disadvantaged children across the Nation, helping foster a lifelong love of reading while building confidence, sparking curiosity, and strengthening essential literacy skills.

This year alone, our Toys for Tots Literacy Program has already delivered more than 245,000 books to children attending Title I funded schools, creating new opportunities for students to learn, grow, and succeed.

Today, we encourage you to pick up a good book, read with a child, or share your favorite story with someone you love. A few minutes spent reading together can create memories that last a lifetime and inspire a lifelong love of learning.

Because every book opened helps a child Turn the Page Toward Opportunity. 📖❤️

Today, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program was deeply honored to receive the 2026 Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award—one of the Department of War’s highest civilian honors for humanitarian service.

This recognition reflects nearly 80 years of serving children and families in need and recognizes the unwavering dedication of the Marines, local volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters who make our mission possible.

While this recognition is a tremendous honor, it also serves as a reminder that our work continues.

Every toy collected.
Every book distributed.
Every family supported.
Every child reminded they are seen, valued, and never forgotten.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this mission possible.

Today, we honor a woman whose heart seemed to make room for everyone—Dolly Parton, a truly extraordinary woman whose kindness and generosity touched generations.

Dolly’s good deeds were countless. She used her gifts, her voice, and her platform to lift others up, especially children who needed someone to believe in them. She understood something we hold close at Toys for Tots: giving a child hope is about so much more than a gift. It is about reminding a child, “You matter. You are loved. Your future matters.”

Our Toys for Tots Literacy Program is proud to share the same mission that has long been at the heart of Dolly’s extraordinary philanthropy through her Imagination Library: empowering children through the life-changing power of literacy. We are committed to helping carry that vision forward, paying tribute to her legacy by putting books into the hands of children and helping them discover a world of possibilities for generations to come.

Dolly’s legacy is a beautiful example of what happens when compassion becomes action—and that spirit is something we deeply admire.

Thank you, Dolly, for a lifetime of making kindness a verb and for showing us that perhaps the greatest measure of success is how many lives we make a little brighter. ❤️
