TKTBI - Tibetan Center TKTBI founded in Kingston, NY by Tashi Kyil Tour, from Tashi Kyil Monastery in Dehradun,India.

During the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s, the Chinese Communists destroyed more than 6,000 Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. Labrang Tashi Kyil, located in eastern Tibet, was one of the largest monasteries destroyed. In 1967, a group of exiled monks arrived in India and rebuilt their monastery in northern India. The present day Tashi Kyil is a small refugee monastery having about 100 monks. The original Labrang Tashi Kyil has been rebuilt in Tibet but is under the strict control of the Communists and serves mostly as a tourist attraction. To the present day, chanting styles, rituals, and other Buddhist practices are preserved just as they were in Tibet. In addition, the monastery offers classes in Tibetan grammar and English.
