Here is the rationale for the transition from a FB "Page" to a FB "Group". We are following OCC Headquarters who wrote to all Area Leaders and stated the following:
Facebook Area Team Pages:
When Facebook became popular several years ago, we realized it could be a great tool for Area Teams to share local information. This was championed from OCC headquarters, and we encouraged this as a great communication tool. Over the years, many dedicated volunteers created pages to promote OCC, with the blessing of the OCC headquarters staff. With the constant changes in Facebookās terms and procedures, the OCC Media Relations Team, as well as the Samaritanās Purse Communications Team, feel it is now in the best interest of the ministry that Area Team pages, including other project-related pages (events, fundraisers, etc.), are removed to avoid potential or future legal complications, as well as to comply with Samaritanās Purse policies. We still encourage all of our volunteers to support OCC on social media by engaging with our content from the main OCC page. This includes liking posts, sharing posts from personal profiles, leaving comments with ideas, and posting personal photos. We have also included information below regarding the alternative to pages - FACEBOOK GROUPS.
