Every person deserves a safe and affordable place to live. Ulster County Habitat for Humanity is a local non-profit housing organization.

Together, with our supportive community, Ulster Habitat helps families build homes, ensuring a brighter future that has been demonstrated to be multi-generational. We believe that everry one deserves a safe, affordable place to live. Our mission is to build strength, stability, and independence through homeownership. With the help of volunteers and donations from businesses and members of the community, we are able to build homes for qualified families which they purchase with an affordable mortgage. Our families contribute sweat equity/volunteer hours to the construction of the homes and participating in Homebuyer Education classes. During the process, our families become knowledgeable about home repair and maintenance and learn the financial skills needed to be a successful homeowner.

Every sofa, appliance and piece of art that came through Ulster Habitat Restore this year did two jobs. It found a new home, and it helped build one.

Shoppers, donors and volunteers made possible for us to continue to build new homes for first time homebuyers who feel priced out of the Ulster County housing market.

Thank you to everyone who shopped and donated with us this year, and to the volunteers who kept things moving on the sales floor.

As the dust settles from the election, one thing is still true: we all want Ulster County to be a better place for our families, friends and neighbors to live. And when we work together toward a shared goal, there's almost nothing we can't accomplish.

Hard hats, name tags and ReStore pricing guns all got a real workout this year. 💪

More than 150 volunteers gave over 9,000 hours to our mission in Ulster County. They raised walls and hung siding on the build site, sorted donations at Ulster Habitat Restore, and represented us wherever they proudly wore our logo.

Some came out once. Some showed up every single week. Every hour brought a neighbor closer to a safe, stable home.

We're so grateful for each of you. 💙

A car repair. A medical bill. A furnace that quits.

For some of us, that's an inconvenience. For nearly half of us, it could put home at risk.

46% of people in the U.S. worry that one unexpected setback could threaten their ability to stay housed, according to Habitat for Humanity's new global housing report, Home at What Cost? The report calls it ""a chain of compromises,"" where ""the margin between stability and crisis becomes smaller.""

Safe, affordable homes widen that margin. That's the work we do every day in Ulster County.

Meet Drew.

Recently retired, Drew signed up to volunteer last year to fill a day or two a week. Fast forward - Drew gave more volunteer hours than anyone else on our latest home, and that home now belongs to Holly and Tommy, a family in Ulster County who never thought they would be able to afford one.

Our homebuyers complete partner hours on our build sites as part of the program, and this family put in a lot of them. Both adults spent many hours on our build sites, often without knowing which home would end up being theirs. Drew was working alongside them. That mix of volunteers and future homeowners on the same crew is part of how we set families up for success.

Thank you, Drew. Your hours are in those walls, and so are theirs.

Welcome home, Tommy, Holly, Phoenix, Archer and Ruby. 🏡

On Tuesday, more than 50 people gathered to dedicate the Ramey-Nicholson family’s new home in Port Ewen. Donors, neighbors, board members, family, friends, build volunteers and ReStore volunteers all came together to celebrate the moment.

This is why we do what we do. A home is built by many hands, and this one had plenty. Thank you to all the businesses, corporations, volunteers, and individuals who gave their time and talent to this build.

Special thanks to Peggy Nau for the celebratory cake and to Drew Marallo, who logged more volunteer hours on this home than anyone else and Carolyn Hurley who came out of retirement at Ulster Habitat to get this family over the finish line.

Congratulations to the Ramey-Nicholson family. Welcome home.

Whatever's printed on your ballot, housing is on it. Voting is one of the most important things you can do to make our community a place where everyone can afford to live and work.

Look up your polling place and pick the time you'll go. Check whether your state offers early or mail voting, and read your sample ballot before you get there.
