Last night was the Ulster County Firefighter one graduation. Firefighter Makenzie Hoffman received her certificate on successfully completing the course. Since become an interior firefighter in December firefighter Hoffman has only become more knowledgeable and stronger as a firefighter, and will continue to take classes and learn more at every opportunity.

From the officers of the department, congratulations Makenzie.

The Officers and Members of the Sawkill Fire Department extend our heartfelt condolences to the Spring Lake Fire Department as they mourn the loss of Firefighter Dave Allen.

Dave was a dedicated New York State Fire Instructor who made a lasting impact on the fire service. Many of our members had the privilege of learning from him over the years, including recently during an OSHA class.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the Spring Lake Fire Department, as well as Dave’s family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him. May he rest in peace.

The officers and members of the Sawkill Fire Department extend our deepest condolences to the members of the Cottekill Fire Department on the tragic line-of-duty passing of Chief David Gagnon.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Cottekill Fire Department, Chief Gagnon’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

The Officers and members of the Sawkill Fire Department, send their condolences to the Woodstock Rescue Squad on the passing of EMT Dawn Neal Ellsworth she was a dedicated member who recently lost her battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Dawn and the entire Woodstock rescue Squad during this difficult time.

Sawkill Fire Department SCBA Bond Vote

The Sawkill Fire Department will be holding a bond vote for the purchase of 15 new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Sawkill Fire Department.

SCBAs are one of the most critical pieces of equipment a firefighter uses. These breathing packs provide clean, breathable air while operating inside smoke-filled and hazardous environments where toxic gases, extreme heat, and low oxygen levels make it impossible to breathe safely.

Our current SCBAs have reached the end of their service life and must be replaced to ensure our firefighters have reliable, modern equipment when responding to emergencies. New SCBAs provide improved safety features, increased reliability, enhanced communication capabilities, and better protection against today’s fireground hazards.

When firefighters respond to protect our homes, businesses, and community, they depend on this equipment to protect their own lives. Having properly functioning, up-to-date SCBAs helps ensure they can safely perform rescues, extinguish fires, and return home to their families after every call.

Your support of this bond vote is an investment in the safety of the dedicated volunteers who serve the Sawkill Fire District and the community they protect.

Every year, the members of the Sawkill Auxiliary proudly set up the Field of Honor for Memorial Day weekend — a moving tribute dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

As the flags stand tall, they serve as a powerful reminder of the courage, service, and sacrifice of our fallen heroes. Thank you to everyone who helps make this tradition possible each year and to all who take the time to visit and reflect this Memorial Day weekend. 🇺🇸
