Unitarian Universalism is a religion without a creed, but has a belief each person can find their own spiritual path. Since 1958, our congregation has offered a home for liberal religious seekers in the Kingston area that includes members from surrounding counties. Today, we are a diverse, open and growing religious community. Some of our members are from Christian or Jewish backgrounds, while others identify with Paganism, Buddhism and other faith traditions. There are humanists, atheists, and agnostics among us, and many who resonate to the insights of poets, mystics and thoughtful human beings across the ages. We are all bound together by the values expressed in our Unitarian Universalist Principles:
1 - The inherent worth and dignity of every person
2 - Justice, equity and compassion in human relations
3 - Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
4 - A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
5 - The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large
6 - The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
7 - Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part

Democracy is sacred to Unitarian Universalists, and we celebrate the millions of Americans who put their democratic values into action in the 2026 midterm elections. Across the country, voters made their voices heard and helped shape the future of their communities and our nation.

The election results give us reason to celebrate and to hope. Voters affirmed the importance of democracy, religious freedom, diversity, bodily autonomy, and the dignity of all people.

We celebrate everyone who voted, volunteered, and organized to strengthen our democracy. Through our nonpartisan UU the Vote initiative, Unitarian Universalists were proud to be part of this collective effort.

We also know our work is not finished. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the rights and dignity of trans, nonbinary, and intersex people and to building a multiracial democracy where everyone can thrive.

Democracy is more than elections. It lives in how we show up for one another and put our values into action. 💛✊

Today, we move forward with renewed hope and commitment. Together, we are moving toward love. ❤️

Are you a UU who voted your values? Let's see it! 🙌

Our Unitarian Universalist values don't just live in our congregations. We bring them out into the world, into our communities, and yes, into the voting booth.

Every election is an opportunity to make our voices heard and put our values into action. Whether you voted early, mailed in your ballot, or headed to the polls today, thank you for showing up and participating in our democracy.

Beloveds, as the midterm elections here in the U.S. draw near, I know that many of us are carrying deep worry and uncertainty. For many, these elections are the culmination of weeks and months of faithful organizing: knocking on doors and talking with neighbors, driving community members to the polls, and supporting the electoral process at voting sites. I am grateful to the UUA’s Organizing and Strategy Team and to all of you who are sharing your own values-based positions on issues and helping to get out the vote.

This is deeply faithful work because the promise of democracy lives in the collective whole and is made manifest through our actions and our care for one another. Democracy is made real through our practices – every time we work together for the common good, we build new relationships with trust, empathy, and humility. We the people are the democracy; it lives in our commitments to one another, and we make this powerful idea real when we live our values and take action together in community.

Unitarian Universalism is a faith of courage, of resilience, and of moral witness. No matter the outcome of any particular electoral race or ballot measure this year, our work will continue: we will resist fascism in all its forms, we will protect our communities, we will care for one another, and we will build a future where all people can thrive. Hold fast to one another in the coming days, beloveds, and we will meet this moment courageously, together.

Let Love Lead

Spirit of all that moves among us and through us:
As elections near,
help us to let love lead.

Help us recognize that polarization
can also be understood as passion:
Passion to build something better
that holds all of us at the center.

Help us to imagine and to foster
a world in which we listen more than we talk,
where our priority is to learn as much as teach;
A world in which we find ways to connect
across the chasms of difference,
making space for revelation to emerge.

Spirit of love,
help us turn toward love
with the world, with each other, with ourselves—
all the same thing, at its core.
Let us extend grace
within our movements and between our movements:
Less sure, more curious,
wondering, together, what is possible.

Spirit of all that is open and hopeful,
guide us in building a larger tent:
Not solely Republican or Democrat,
Independent or Uncommitted.

Let us learn, too, from our ancestors:
From generational pain
and generational survival,
the movement of generations
building across difference
something better, larger, more encompassing
that can hold us all.

Let us be not just flags,
potent though they are in declaring our beliefs,
and yet impeding our ability to recognize humanity
across differences.

�Spirit of hope,
Spirit of all that is yet possible,
lead us away from the false separation
that the only truth is ours; that anything less is incomplete.

Lead us instead into the discomfort of learning
from youth,
young adults,
activists,
elders,
those we cherish,
those we find wanting.

Lead us to the love that holds us all and is with us always;
The love that can help us through
the messy and necessary life-altering work
of building movements across beliefs, across difference,
for change that can endure.

May it be so.
