One of our favorite summer traditions is almost here 🌿✨

Join us on Saturday, June 20, for Dinner Under the Trees — an evening of food, music, art, and conversation in the SCAA garden with fellow artists, friends, collectors, and supporters.

The evening begins with a private preview of the 99th Annual Members Exhibition, followed by cocktails, dinner, live music, and the Awards Presentation with Guest Juror Amy Genser.

And once dinner wraps up, the celebration continues with the public Opening Reception for the 99th Annual Members Exhibition in the gallery from 7–9 PM.

It’s always a special night and we’d love to have you there.

An engaging presentation on life as a nomadic artist. Painter Chris Long shares his journey from sculptor and teacher to traveling the country in an RV—and what ultimately brought him back to Rhode Island. Hear stories from the New Orleans art scene, Colorado art fairs, and being stranded out west during the pandemic, as well as how he built a living selling his work online through social media.

This month we’re pleased to feature multidisciplinary artist Janice Smyth. Janice has been involved with SCAA since 2014, exhibiting and, recently, volunteering.

Though originally working with textiles, specifically artful quilts, Janice’s new work is in acrylics. She currently has many works on display at Cru Cafe in Newport and is also is showing three quilts in the Newport Art Museum’s newest exhibition.

The show is installed, and we’re excited for you to join us at the opening reception tonight, Thursday, May 21, from 6–8 PM.

The Members Invitational Exhibition features a small, cohesive collection of work by six member artists: Lisa Sledzik, Christine Herron, JR Lynch, Greg Ames, Jan Ames, and Richard Black.

Artwork by the SCAA Staff & Board of Directors is also on display in the small gallery.

Join instructor Roxann Kasper for Intro to Wheel Throwing and discover the joy of shaping clay while learning foundational throwing, decorating, and glazing techniques in a welcoming and supportive studio environment.

Our small class sizes allow for individualized attention, helping students build confidence at their own pace while connecting with fellow makers along the way.
