Never painted with watercolor before? Perfect. This class is designed to be easy, unintimidating, and completely judgment-free.

Over five weeks, you’ll learn and practice eight major watercolor techniques, then put them to work painting everything from birds on branches to landscapes. Burl will demonstrate each process, while you work at your own pace and explore both illustrative and painterly styles.

Along the way, you’ll also learn about color harmony, composition, the elements and principles of design, and the work of artists including Homer, Hopper, Sargent and Pendergast.

And perhaps most importantly: mistakes are absolutely allowed. In fact, they’re part of learning.

If you missed out on the first class, this is your second chance!

Let nature leave it's mark!. In this September two-day eco-printing workshop with artist and instructor Sasha Azbel, students will explore the colors, textures, and patterns of the natural.

Working with seaweed gathered along the Rhode Island coast, along with leaves and flowers from SCAA's garden, you'll create one-of-a-kind textile panels using natural dyeing, tie-resist, and block-resist techniques. Layering plants, color, and pattern, you'll discover how the materials themselves can shape the story of each piece.

The finished textiles can be used as an accessory or home décor—and no two will be alike.
