Thelma’s Kitchen is entering a new chapter. ❤️

Effective today, September 2, Thelma’s Kitchen’s café and catering services are temporarily closed as we take time to thoughtfully consider what comes next.

While our doors may be closed for a season, our commitment to feeding our neighbors continues. Reconciliation Services will continue providing meals to our clients throughout this transition, just as we have served our community for nearly 40 years.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has shared a meal with us, ordered catering, volunteered, worked alongside us, or otherwise been part of the Thelma’s Kitchen community. What makes Thelma’s special has always been about so much more than food — it’s about the people gathered around the table.

This isn’t goodbye. We’re taking time to reflect, listen and imagine what the next chapter of Thelma’s Kitchen can be, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. ❤️

Happy National Senior Citizens Day! 💛

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible seniors who bring their time, care, patience, and wisdom to RS’s Foster Grandparent Program.

Our Foster Grandparents have so much to give — and each week, they share it with students across Kansas City. Through encouragement, mentorship, a listening ear, and a steady presence, they help young people learn and grow while building meaningful connections across generations.

We’re so grateful for the wisdom and life experience our Foster Grandparents bring into classrooms, and for the countless ways they continue to make our community stronger.

To all of our Foster Grandparents: thank you for showing KC students just how much we can learn from one another. 💛

A partnership that makes a difference in so many ways. 💛

Earlier this week, we were grateful to welcome a volunteer group from Spire to Reconciliation Services! Their team spent the day serving alongside us at Thelma’s Kitchen, helping us provide warm meals and hospitality to our neighbors.

But Spire’s support of RS extends far beyond a single day of service. From generous grant funding that strengthens our work to the DollarHelp program, which helps neighbors struggling to pay their gas bills, Spire continues to show up for our community in meaningful, tangible ways.

We were thrilled to welcome the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) team from the Missouri Department of Economic Development to Reconciliation Services and Thelma’s Kitchen last week! 💛

As part of a bus tour visiting CDBG grant recipients across Kansas City, their team stopped by RS to see firsthand how their investment is making a difference in our community.

Heather, our Grants Manager; Alexis, our REVEAL Program Manager; and Chef Natasha Bailey, Thelma’s Kitchen Head Chef, had the opportunity to share how CDBG funding translates into tangible support for our KC neighbors — strengthening programs, expanding access to resources, and helping us continue showing up for our community every day.

We are incredibly grateful for CDBG’s partnership and investment in this work. Thank you for believing in our programs, our team, and most importantly, the neighbors we have the privilege of walking alongside! 💛
