"All lanes of Southwest Trafficway are now open. KC Water has completed repairs following the sinkhole discovered on August 26 along Southwest Trafficway. Crews determined the sinkhole was caused by the failure of a sewer line installed in 1892, when the roadway was known as Summit Street.

This effort would not have been possible without the collaboration of KC Water crews, Streetwise, construction inspection teams, sewer lining contractors, pipeline cleaning crews, and the support from the City of Kansas City.

Thank you to residents, businesses, and commuters for your patience and cooperation throughout this repair process"

✅ All lanes of Southwest Trafficway are now open.

KC Water has completed repairs following the sinkhole discovered on August 26 along Southwest Trafficway. Crews determined the sinkhole was caused by the failure of a sewer line installed in 1892, when the roadway was known as Summit Street.

Working around the clock, KC Water crews completed road restoration approximately 15 hours ahead of schedule, allowing the roadway to reopen sooner than anticipated.

This effort would not have been possible without the collaboration of KC Water crews, Streetwise, construction inspection teams, sewer lining contractors, pipeline cleaning crews, and the support from the City of Kansas City.

Thank you to residents, businesses, and commuters for your patience and cooperation throughout this repair process. 🚧💧

⚠️ Reminder: All southbound lanes and two northbound lanes of Southwest Trafficway are closed from 31st Street ➡️ Interstate 35. These closures are expected through 9/2, with Broadway Blvd as a detour.

Traffic Alert! KC Water continues to investigate the cause of a street cave-in along Southwest Trafficway and will implement additional traffic closures Friday morning to support roadway repairs and secure public safety: all southbound lanes on Southwest Trafficway and one northbound lane between 29th Street and Interstate 35 will be shutdown
