Our voices have always been a force for change.

In 2006, George W. Bush signed into law the authorization for the National Congress of Black Women to donate a sculpture honoring Sojourner Truth to the U.S. Capitol.

On April 28, 2009, that vision became reality with the unveiling of her bust in Emancipation Hall in Washington, DC—created by artist Artis Lane.

This historic moment stands as a powerful reminder of the impact of Black women’s voices—past, present, and future.
