Hey, Midtown!

You may have seen a lot of changes / additions to the area as we begin the first week of World Cup. Here’s what we have going on!
WESTPORT PROMENADE — Midtown KC Now and Westport Regional Business League partnered up for World Cup to make Westport Road festive for locals and visitors! You will see the addition of international flags, sidewalk decals showing everyone where ‘the locals go,’ and string lights above the sidewalks, adding much needed light to nighttime activities.

WESTPORT EAST — For the past year, we have been working with Westport Road business and property owners (Broadway to Main) and consultants, Carpenter Collective to rebrand the area to capture the unique vibe of this district of shops and restaurants. The steering committee selected ‘Westport East’ to represent the WE of this community. With the rebranding, we have added, or are in the process of adding, the following:

-a huge Westport East mural on the side of Pop Vintage by Hannah Scott and Midtown Signs
-a small mural on 204 Westport Rd
-a mural on 315 Westport Rd

And with the assistance of the BACID Façade Improvement grant, Lemondestudio Passions KC Wesport worked with Spraykc and artist Jared Horman to install a gorgeous new mural on their west wall.

Midtown KC Now’s community room at 3931 Main is now a VIP lounge for the duration of the tournament. Check out linktree for details.

We have also partnered with Plaza District Council for the HelloKC app to help locals and visitors make the most of their time in Midtown. Find it on our Midtown KC Now web page.

With Lemondestudio we installed three soccer (football!) trophy cranks that are people-powered and play music from World Cup events! See them at Murray Davis Park (40th & Main), Pioneer Park (Broadway & Westport Rd), and the Food Truck Court at 3306 Main. We also offered a micro-grant to businesses in the Broadway Area and Main Street CIDs to decorate their storefronts for World Cup.

Party in the Parking Lot is our annual celebration of our Community Improvement District Staff. These are the hard-working individuals keeping the streets clean and safe in midtown. Yesterday, we grilled out, had live music, offered chair massages and sang the praises of our wonderful staff.

Did you know? You can ride the KC Streetcar all the way from UMKC to the Riverfront now. The new extension opened Monday with a fabulous celebration. Ding! Ding! All aboard!
