Forty years ago, no one was designing homes with Airbnb or VRBO in mind.

Now short‑term rentals are one of the biggest fire‑safety challenges in tourist towns.

After attending a Florida Fire Marshal workshop, AIBD Executive Director Steve Mickley breaks down how inspections based on NFPA 101 and related statutes are cutting STR‑related fires and what residential designers must do differently with egress, alarms, emergency lighting, and posted info.

In this week's Midweek Meander, he shares those lessons from the porch of Key West's Southernmost House and shows how you can turn STR code fluency into a real value‑add for your clients, plus get access to a webinar replay and a client‑ready STR safety checklist.
