Overmountain District of the Sequoyah Council, BSA serving Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. They arrived at Sycamore Shoals on the 25th.

After winning a decisive victory at the Battle of Camden in August 1780, British General Charles Cornwallis invaded North Carolina, and sent Major Patrick Ferguson into the mountains to root out the Patriot irregulars and protect the region's loyalists. Ferguson quickly routed McDowell's badly-outnumbered force, and McDowell retreated across the mountains to the Washington District. Ferguson pardoned a captured frontiersmen named Samuel Phillips (a cousin to Isaac Shelby) so that Phillips could carry a message to the Overmountain settlements. In the message, Ferguson warned the Overmountain Men that if they didn't lay down their arms, he would "march his army over the mountains, hang their leaders, and lay waste the country with fire and sword." Campbell and his company of 400 Virginians gathered in Abingdon on lands owned by Capt. Andrew Colvill, now known as the Abingdon Muster Grounds, on the banks of Wolf Creek on September 23, 1780 and began the first leg of the march to meet up with a group of "Tennesseans" at Rocky Mount on September 24. On September 26, after a fiery sermon by Reverend Samuel Doak, the Overmountain Men began their long trek over the Blue Ridge, marching from Sycamore Shoals to the base of Roan Mountain, where they camped for the night.

🔥 **YOU KNOW THE AFTER-MEETING MEETING.**

The Scouts have gone home. The building is mostly empty. Someone is still holding a half-finished cup of coffee. And somehow, the leaders are still sitting around talking.

“We should probably talk about next month…”

“Did anyone figure out what happened with that?”

“Wait, what if we tried…?”

And then, 45 minutes later, you realize you’ve spent more time talking to the other adults than you did during the actual meeting. 😂

**That’s the After-Meeting Meeting.**

And honestly? It might be one of the best parts of Scouting.

**Iron & Embers is basically an entire day dedicated to it.** A chance for Scouters to step away from the weekly rush, sit around with other leaders, talk about the stuff that actually matters, swap ideas, solve problems, tell stories, and—just as importantly—**connect with other adults who get it.**

🌧️ **WEATHER UPDATE: Davy Crockett Birthplace Service Day**

We're keeping an eye on the forecast! Our restoration work day at David Crockett Birthplace State Park on October 10 will now run from *9 AM–1 PM* due to the weather outlook.

☔ *Please bring rain gear* and come prepared for wet conditions.

We'll be monitoring the weather throughout the morning and may need to wrap up earlier than 1 PM if conditions require it. This adjustment follows guidance from the park rangers, and safety remains our priority.

Thank you for being flexible and helping us continue this important restoration work. We'll see you Saturday—rain or shine, as conditions safely allow! 🌱
