Our home rink is Robert Morris University’s Island Sports Center (RMU) on Neville Island. The goal of the NA Inline Hockey program is to allow as many boys and girls (skaters) as possible to compete from grades 3 through 12. The tryout process evaluates and places skaters at the correct team level so that the skater can safely play, remain competitive, and build their skills. The number of compet
itive teams is usually limited to the availability of rink time. Tryouts consist of skating, shooting, and scrimmaging drills. Tryouts for Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Middle School teams are in May / June at our home rink, RMU, Robert Morris University’s Island Sports Center on Neville Island. Skaters trying out must attend all tryout sessions as scheduled. Invitations will be immediately issued for a next day tryout for the tier one teams; V1, JV1, and MS1. Attendance is required if a player wishes to compete at this level. Our 2020-2021 season consisted of 6 teams. The program is fortunate to have dedicated volunteer coaches who run each team, including handling weekly communications and practices. All coaches receive certification through the PIRHL and necessary clearances to work with minors. In the program’s short history, the NA teams have had great success. Most notably, NA won back-to-back Varsity State Championships in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. Our 2020-2021 season ended with Championship wins for the Varsity and MS1 teams. The playing season begins in September with seeding tournament games. Teams play from October through February. Playoffs follow the end of the regular season and often last until mid to end of March. Games are played on weekends. There are 3 venues in our area where games are played-----RMU, Murrysville Sport Arena & Hot Shots Sports Arena. The league we are associated with is the PIRHL, PA Interscholastic Roller Hockey League. If your child is chosen as a PIRHL All-Star, the games are played in late December or very early January. Each team practices at least 3 times a month at our home rink, RMU. Practices are weekday evenings. Additional skills or practices can be planned by your team’s coach at a separate additional expense, if any expenses are incurred. Skater dues include league fees (excluding All Star game expenses, if any), referee fees, and practice time fees as designated at the beginning of the season ( practices occur once a week for the entire season). Required equipment can be found on our EQUIPMENT page. NA Inline has team and individual photos taken in October, a clothing sale of NA Inline clothing and accessories, a banquet, and sponsors the Eric Pelly Scholarship fund.
