The Landing - Houston

The Landing - Houston The Landing is a nonprofit serving survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation The Landing grew in services, partners, and impact.

The Landing started as a dream to reach survivors who were slipping through the cracks. Inspired by their faith, our founders desired to increase victim identification and connect more victims with support and services. Their hope was to create a safe space for survivors, regardless of whether they are ready to leave their situation. In January 2016, we opened our doors as the first and only drop-in center for trafficking survivors in Houston. We were amazed by the community response, and in our first three years we served over 500 survivors! We sought new ways to reach survivors—through outreach to the Bissonnet Track, at court, in prison, and among at-risk populations throughout Houston. We also began educating the community through presentations to churches, schools, and businesses. One of the most pressing needs we saw in Houston was more support for younger victims of sex trafficking. In response, we launched our youth advocacy program in 2020 to encourage healing, empowerment, and self-sufficiency in sexually exploited children and youth. As we grow and serve more survivors, our aim ultimately is to love people the way Jesus does. We seek to meet people where they are, honor their inherent dignity and worth, and walk alongside them on their journey.

Meet Zoe! 💜

For 3.5 years, Zoe has been an important part of The Landing team. Much of what makes our programs possible happens behind the scenes, and Zoe plays a key role.

She helps lead our grant strategy and reporting, researches funding opportunities, tells our story through data and outcomes, and helps ensure our work is accurate and aligned with our standards.

To help you get to know her better, we asked Zoe a few fun questions:

🐶 Dogs or cats?

Cats ALL THE WAY! I have two cats, who are my children: Olive and Twix. I've had Olive for 16 years -- that's my girl. I do still love dogs, though, just when they're not mine!

🗻 Mountains or beach?

Beach next to a mountain! I adore swimming and the beach -- if I close my eyes now and pretend I'm there, I swear my heart rate goes down. My dream one day is to live by the beach, sorry Houston, but not Galveston. However, I do LOVE a trek. A three day hike up a mountain? Gorgeous.

🍰 Sweet or savory?

I have a sweet tooth for sure. Cake? Cheesecake? Chocolate (Cadburys, NOT Hersheys)? Lisa keeps her office stocked for my 3:00pm sugar rush :)

🍽️ Dream dinner guest?

Catherine O'Hara. I feel like that doesn't need an explanation.

🎉 Favorite way to have fun outside of work?

I LOVE to travel whenever I can. Everyone at The Landing knows I love to use up that PTO. If I don't have a trip planned - short, long, close by or far away, I get antsy! At the end of October I'm going to Maine, and I'm so excited (see: mountain v beach)!

📚 Favorite recent book, movie, or TV show?

I'm such a movie and TV lover. If I'm not traveling, I'm seated at the movies, popcorn in hand. It's so hard to choose a favorite, though, so I'm most recently watching Dancing with the Stars now that it's back, and this cast is stacked! My favs to win are Amber Glenn and Harry Shum Jr. (of Glee, NOT Greys Anatomy, thank you). Plus, Bruno Tonioli brings me so much joy -- FAB-U-LOUS!

Thank you, Zoe! We're so grateful to have you on the team!

This holiday season, you can help make sure survivors and their families have a place at the table.

Each gift provides everything needed for a Thanksgiving meal for a family of six, offering warmth, comfort, and connection during a season that can feel especially isolating. 💜

This year, our goal is to raise $12,000 to provide Thanksgiving meals for 140 survivors and their families. Your gift, no matter the size, helps create a moment of joy, dignity, and belonging around the table.

You can give right at thelanding.org/give, and just be sure to select "Thanksgiving Meals" as the designation for your gift.

Will you help us set a place at the table?

We just opened up two roles on our team!

💜 Drop-In Center Manager:

Provides day-to-day leadership and oversight for the Drop-In Center, including case management, client programming, staff supervision, program quality, compliance, budget management, and operational effectiveness.

Ensures services are trauma-informed, client-centered, well documented, aligned with agency policies and strategic priorities, and responsive to client and program needs.

💜 Case Manager 1:

Provides direct, trauma-informed services to Phase 1 clients (individuals in the earliest stages of engagement who are seeking basic stabilization and support).

The primary goal is to assist clients in meeting immediate needs while increasing safety, stability, and readiness for ongoing services. The person in this role builds trust and helps clients navigate complex systems of care.

Sending a huge thank you to everyone who has signed up to host a meal at our Drop-In Center recently, including Sugarland Methodist Church, Vessel Church, Graceway Church, OneLife Church, Southminster Presbyterian Church, King’s City Church, The West Church, our good friend Becky, and other kind volunteers.

Because of your generosity, our clients have been able to enjoy pizza, a baked potato bar, cheeseburger sliders, and so much more! Our team is always talking about how much the energy shifts at our center when a group shows up to serve a hot home-cooked or catered meal.

We appreciate you and your incredible hospitality so much.

Sometimes change begins with something simple: a safe place to go, someone willing to listen, and a place to belong.

That was at the heart of Renewed, our 10th Anniversary Gala on September 18—a night of gratitude, reflection, and hope. Most meaningful was hearing directly from survivors, including Tammi, Queen, Jade, Tayosha, and Sandra.

Sharing stories of painful experiences takes courage, and we are honored by their trust. Their voices remind us that Renewed is not only about looking back, but making room for what can be.

At The Landing, we believe every survivor deserves safety, dignity, belonging, and hope—and that God is still writing their stories.

If their stories speak to you, please help honor their courage by sharing A Place to Belong with your community.

Thank you for believing in survivors, walking alongside us, and helping make The Landing a safe, trusted place to land. 💜

“My story isn’t just about what I’ve been through. It’s about how I kept going.”

Those words, spoken from the stage at The Landing’s 10th anniversary gala, reminded us why this work matters deeply.

For ten years, The Landing has had the privilege of walking alongside survivors as they pursue safety, healing, stability, and the freedom to build a life of their own.

We can tell you how many survivors we have served, how many meals we have shared, and how many counseling sessions have taken place. Those numbers matter. But behind every number is a person with a name, a voice, a story, and a future.

Protecting the privacy, dignity, and choices of the survivors we serve is deeply important to us. When a survivor chooses to tell her own story, in her own words and in her own way, we believe one of the most important things we can do is listen.

This is Tayosha’s story, in her own words: https://thelanding.org/blog/tayoshas-story/

We'd like to extend our deepest gratitude once more to our Renewed honorees. Each one was carefully chosen for the incredible, consistent impact they've made for survivors of human trafficking in our city.

And our beautiful butterfly artwork created by survivors served as a fitting symbol of the evening: transformation takes time, but with safety, care, and community, new life can emerge.

A huge thank you to:

The Landing Co-Founders, Deborah and James Gates — For nearly a decade of faithful generosity and a steadfast belief in this mission and the survivors we serve.

Solace Media, led by Sunny and Natasha Paradeshi (The Landing Co-Founder) — For believing in The Landing from the beginning and using their voice, creativity, and influence to champion this mission and help others see its impact.

Sugar Creek Baptist Church — For 10 years of putting love into action, from serving survivors at Christmas Under the Stars to providing meals, supplies, facility support, and raising awareness across their campuses.

The City of Houston Mayor's Office, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Division — For years of partnership that have strengthened the continuum of care and helped The Landing respond when survivors need emergency shelter, housing assistance, and other critical support.

We are so grateful to stand in this mission alongside so many incredible people. 💜

As we've celebrated 10 years of impact throughout this year, we're looking ahead to The Next 10, starting with the upcoming expansion of our Drop-In Center.

Over the past decade, The Landing has served more than 2,800 survivors, including over 600 children, youth, and adults in 2025 alone.

As client demand continues to increase in both scale and complexity, and as the number of individuals served by The Landing grows, we are expanding the physical footprint of our Drop‑In Center to ensure continued access to high‑quality services.

Daily demand averages 30–40 clients, exceeding current space capacity and limiting safe support for individuals in crisis, many with significant mental health needs.

That's why we're so grateful to share that The Landing will expand by approximately 3,000 sq. ft. by the end of 2026, increasing our capacity to meet projected needs over the next three years.

This expansion will allow us to serve more clients safely and effectively while enhancing program delivery and offering greater privacy and comfort.

Making a difference for survivors is only possible through your support. Thank you for helping us be a safe place to land for every survivor who walks through our doors. 💜

We’re so grateful to H-E-B Blooms for generously donating all of our florals for the Renewed Gala! We couldn’t have done it without the incredible generosity of so many in this community, and H-E-B Blooms truly stepped up to make a meaningful difference here in Houston.

We are so grateful! 💜
