Earlier this week, the AGC Houston Construction Leadership Council (CLC) gathered at McCorvey Sheet Metal Works for an educational field trip and happy hour! Those who attended had the opportunity to tour McCorvey Sheet Metal Works’ office and shop, getting a behind-the-scenes look at one of the nation’s largest family-owned HVAC sheet metal ductwork detailers, fabricators, and installers. Established in 1925, McCorvey has over 100 years of experience serving the commercial, industrial, and oil and gas industries.

Huge thanks to Alex Kaldschmidt, Zachary Shivers, Carolina Proaño, Miguel Campos, Sean Ertons, Josh Simpson, Corey Gill, Justin Caylor, and the incredible team at McCorvey Sheet Metal Works for the warm welcome, and to our friends at DEWALT and Milwaukee Tool for supplying amazing raffle prizes!

We're excited to partner with the Construction Industry Education Foundation - Houston Chapter for its 2026 Trades Day on October 29 at Delmar Stadium!

Trades Day introduces high school students to career opportunities in construction, design, subcontracting, heavy equipment, engineering, and other skilled trades. We encourage our partners from the skilled trades, industry, training, and post-secondary programs to join us in inspiring local students to pursue careers in construction. Bring a hands-on activity for students to explore all the industry has to offer; teach them how to swing a hammer, try their hand at mixing cement, scale a wall for roofing, or throw on some PPE and get them welding. Anything to get their hands and minds moving!

The deadline to sponsor this event is October 15. Take advantage of this exciting opportunity to give back and share what inspires you about your work. We’re excited about the future of construction in Houston, and this is where it all begins!

Recently, the AGC Houston Women in Construction (WIC) Committee partnered with the Houston PEARLS Foundation for a special evening focused on connection, career inspiration, and giving back. At the event, AGC Houston WIC members had the opportunity to connect with young people in the foster care community and share their personal journeys into the construction industry.

Moderated by Taylor Messinger of Harvey Cleary, the panel discussion featured Esmeralda Luna Gusman of JE Dunn Construction, Josefina Aguirre of Solcon Texas Roofing, Krista Sayre of MAREK, and Janie Maldonado of General Commercial Solutions, LLC. The discussion focused on how our WIC members found their way into the construction industry, lessons they’ve learned along the way, career opportunities, and advice for young people exploring their futures.

This event showed the next generation what’s possible and helped them see construction as a rewarding career filled with endless opportunities! Are you interested in getting involved with AGC Houston's Women in Construction? Please contact Brenda Roman at [email protected] to learn more.

On September 25, we proudly celebrated the most outstanding projects built by our members at the Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby-themed Awards for Project Excellence (APEX) Gala, presented by MAREK. Held at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa, this biennial event honors member companies for their consistent excellence in construction, valuable contributions to the community, and commitment to skill, integrity, and responsibility.

At the event, we had the honor of presenting Jerry Nevlud, former President/CEO of AGC Houston, with the 2026 AGC Houston Master Builder Award, recognizing his significant contributions to advancing the commercial built environment in the Greater Houston area during his 21-year tenure. Jerry joins a distinguished group of past recipients, including contractors, designers, project owners, and local leaders who have helped shape Houston.

Additionally, we had the honor of presenting Grand APEX Awards to the top-scoring projects in both the general and specialty contractor categories. Durotech, Inc. received the Grand APEX Award for General Contractor for their remarkable work on the City of Baytown Public Safety Complex, while Camarata Masonry Systems, Ltd. received the Grand APEX Award for Specialty Contractor for their exceptional work on the Ismaili Center Houston.

As always, this event wouldn’t be possible without the support of our amazing members and sponsors. We're so grateful for each and every one of you. Let’s keep bringing people together to advance the issues important to the commercial construction industry!
