A new school year begins with momentum.

As students return to classrooms across HISD, there's even more to celebrate. 2026 STAAR results show year-over-year gains across the majority of assessed subjects — a testament to the dedication of HISD students, educators, school leaders, and families.

At the Houston ISD Foundation, we're proud to partner with the district to help build on this momentum by investing in innovative programs, expanding opportunities for students, supporting educators, and responding to emerging needs across our schools.

Here's to another year of learning, growth, and opportunity. Welcome back, HISD!

Strong partnerships begin with a shared vision.

Last week, the Houston ISD Foundation met with district leadership to discuss strategic priorities for the year ahead, emerging opportunities, and the critical role philanthropy can play in accelerating student success.

By aligning philanthropic investments with HISD's greatest needs, we can help expand opportunities for students, support educators, and invest where resources can have the greatest impact.

We're excited for the year ahead and grateful to work alongside district leaders and community partners to support every student, every school, every opportunity.

Thank you to our Houston ISD Foundation Grants Review Committee!

This year marked the launch of our inaugural Grant Review Committee, bringing together several committed individuals from HISD, the Houston ISD Foundation Board of Directors, and external partners to help guide one of the Foundation's most meaningful investments.

Together, the committee reviewed 97 grant applications submitted by HISD educators representing more than $1 million in funding requests. Through a thoughtful and collaborative review process, they selected 12 innovative programs and projects that will receive a total of $94,000 in funding during the 2026–27 school year.

Every application reflected the passion, creativity, and dedication of HISD educators, making each decision incredibly difficult. We are grateful to each committee member for lending their time, expertise, and unique perspectives to help ensure Foundation funding is invested where it can make the greatest impact.

Thank you for helping us launch this important new chapter in our grantmaking process and for your commitment to expanding opportunities for HISD students and educators.

“Looking back now, I truly believe that if it weren’t for the Bellaire Debate program, I would not be the person I am today. Having a teacher who truly cared about me and saw my potential made all the difference.”

As Samantha prepares to graduate and begin her next chapter at Harvard, we're reminded that transformational opportunities don't happen by accident. They happen because people choose to invest in students.

Every gift helps provide access to programs, mentors, and experiences that can change the trajectory of a young person's life.

There's still time to be part of the momentum.

Make your gift today and help ensure more Houston ISD students have the support they need to discover their potential and pursue their dreams.
