In this episode of Houston Business Radio, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mel Carr, Amanda Flannery, Renee Stewart, and Mark Rector for a powerful conversation about community, connection, mentorship, and the impact we create when we choose to show up for others.

We talked about sharing our stories, turning adversity into opportunity, and why opening a door for someone else can sometimes change the direction of their life.

One message stayed with me: your story isn’t over, and what you’ve been through doesn’t disqualify you—it can equip you.

WEATHER UPDATE: EARLY DISMISSAL
– TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1

Dear Southwest Public Schools' Families, Out of an abundance of caution, Southwest Public Schools will have a 1:00 PM early dismissal on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, due to the forecast for inclement weather, including the potential for heavy rainfall and street flooding in parts of the Houston area during the regular dismissal time.

This developing and somewhat unpredictable weather pattern may create hazardous travel conditions tomorrow afternoon. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority, and we want to ensure everyone has adequate time to travel home safely before conditions potentially worsen. Please stay tuned for further updates as we continue to monitor weather and roadway conditions.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

Our hearts are FULL.

Today, we had the joy of welcoming our students and families back for the first day of school! 🎒✨

We kicked off the year with training, community building, reconnecting, and of course… a little dodgeball.

There’s something special about seeing our community come back together, and we couldn’t be more excited for the year ahead. Here’s to a year of growth, connection, and showing up for one another.

If there’s a family in your life searching for support, connection, and a place to belong, we’d be honored to welcome them through our doors.

Welcome back, Archway family! 💙

Back-to-school season can bring hope, but for families whose child is struggling with substance use, mental health concerns, or behavioral challenges, it can also bring fear and uncertainty.

At Archway Academy, students find more than a classroom. They find structure, compassion, accountability, recovery support, and a community that understands what they are facing.

Our school year begins August 10th, but rolling admissions means you can apply at any time. Your student does not have to wait for a new semester or continue struggling in an environment that is not meeting their needs.

A fresh start can begin whenever your family is ready.
