"Their original goal was straightforward: connect women and children at Shifa’s Women’s Center with health care and community resources. But early in their fellowship, conversations with patients revealed a more complex reality."
Read about two spectacular Fellows from Texas A&M Engineering Medicine - EnMed and their journey in establishing a free vaccine clinic for families in the community!

Patients and volunteers attend a community vaccination clinic on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, at Madrasah Islamiah in Houston, TX. The clinic was organized by Texas A&M University School of Engineering Medicine students through Project S.H.I.F.A. to provide free vaccines to uninsured community members.

We were lucky to have Sean Fitzpatrick, PhD, LPC, executive director of The Jung Center of Houston, Texas, speak at our February Monthly Meeting. His talk, titled “Healing the Healer,” provided our Fellows with tangible skills to apply to their lives as future leaders. Thank you, Dr. Fitzpatrick, for sharing your wisdom on prioritizing our health and avoiding burnout!

Congrats to Faith and Iris for hosting their first Street Medicine Clinic at Cy-Fair Helping Hands! They saw 8 patients in a four-hour period and got two people signed up for the Gold Card. Thank you to Cy-Fair Helping Hands for hosting this project!

On Saturday, we celebrated the successful opening of StreetHealth, our new non-emergent clinic! This vital resource is a powerful partnership between Cy-Fair Helping Hands and the Texas A&M School of Medicine, designed to bring accessible healthcare to those who are uninsured.

It was a busy and heart-centered launch! Not only were scheduled appointments booked, but we were also able to provide care to some walk-in patients throughout the day.

This clinic is student-led, but physician managed, which gives the next generation of medical professionals more hands-on experience under the close oversight of licensed physicians. We are meeting people where they are, ensuring that non-emergency health needs don't go untreated. And we celebrate the partnership, combining the community heart of Cy-Fair Helping Hands with the clinical excellence (and heart too!) of Texas A&M medical students.

A huge thank you to the students who worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality. We are just getting started on this journey together!
