Join us this October as we celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month through history, storytelling, and community.

Houston NOMA is proud to join community partners for a series of programs highlighting the history, voices, and contributions that have shaped Houston and beyond.

The month’s programming includes conversations about q***r Houston history, stories preserved in the archives, and “Out in Architecture: A Conversation” on Saturday, October 24, at the Walker Neighborhood Library.

Everyone is welcome to learn, connect, and celebrate the stories that continue to shape our communities.

NOMA’s HBCU Professional Development Program made a meaningful stop at Prairie View A&M University, connecting architecture and design students with valuable resources, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.

The session was led by Houston NOMA members Dr. Anzilla R. Gilmore, FAIA, NOMA, and Melvalean McLemore, AIA, NOMA, making the visit especially meaningful as Dr. Gilmore returned to her alma mater, Prairie View A&M University, to pour into the next generation of design professionals. Through career development, industry connections, mentorship, and exposure to opportunities beyond graduation, the HBCU PDP continues to strengthen the pipeline while investing directly in the future of the profession.

We celebrated the brilliance, accomplishments, and impact of Black Women in Architecture at the 2026 BWA Brunch: SHE SHAPES SPACE.

The gathering brought together incredible women from across the built environment and created a meaningful space to honor their journeys, recognize their achievements, share their experiences, and celebrate their impact within the profession and their communities.

Houston NOMA was proud to join the Black Women in Architecture Network in celebrating women who continue to lead, inspire, mentor, and create space for generations to come.

A heartfelt thank you to Gensler Houston , Kristine, Marquel, Sheree , Corgan , and OFI for their support in making this meaningful experience possible.

Honoring the Legacy. Building the Future.

Houston NOMA proudly hosted its Inaugural HNOMA Legacy Breakfast, a celebration created to honor the trailblazers whose vision, leadership, and contributions have helped shape our profession and community.
This year’s celebration honored the extraordinary life and legacy of John S. Chase, FAIA — pioneering architect, mentor, community leader, and co-founder of NOMA. Through powerful reflections, shared stories, and meaningful moments, we celebrated a legacy that extends far beyond architecture and continues to inspire generations.

A heartfelt thank you to our honorees, speakers, guests, sponsors, and everyone who joined us in making this inaugural celebration possible.
The Legacy Breakfast marked more than a moment of reflection — it began a new HNOMA tradition of honoring those who paved the way while creating opportunities for those who will follow.

What a great way to kick off the Fall 2026 CO-ACTION Mentorship Program! Our Speed Mentorship event was a huge success, with an amazing turnout of mentors and mentees coming together to connect, share experiences, and build new relationships.

A very special thank you to Ivonne Canez for welcoming us into your space and helping us create such a great environment for our kickoff!

As the CO-ACTION Chair, I am incredibly proud of everyone who took the time to sign up, show up, and invest in this program. Mentorship is about more than simply making a connection — it’s about creating opportunities to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and build relationships that can continue well beyond this semester.

I hope each of our mentors and mentees makes meaningful connections, learns something new, and gets the most out of this experience.

Here’s to a great semester of growth, connection, and community!

Last September, we celebrated an extraordinary milestone: 20 years of the Houston Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects.

In recognition of two decades of design, service, leadership, mentorship, advocacy, and community impact, Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum and the City of Houston proclaimed September 13, 2025 as Houston Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects Day. We were also honored with recognitions from Houston City Controller Chris Hollins and Harris County Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis.

One year later, the story continues.

This September, as HNOMA celebrates its 21st Anniversary, we marked another defining moment with our Inaugural HNOMA Legacy Breakfast — created to honor the people who opened doors before us while investing in those who will walk through them next.

The inaugural gathering celebrated the extraordinary life and impact of John S. Chase, FAIA, architect, trailblazer, mentor, and NOMA co-founder, while launching a new tradition centered on legacy, scholarship, mentorship, community, and the future of our profession.

And once again, the significance of this work was recognized by the City of Houston with a Special Resolution honoring the inaugural Legacy Breakfast and its importance to our city and community.

From 20 years of history to 21 years of continued legacy, these recognitions remind us that HNOMA's story is still being written.

We honor those who built the foundation.
We celebrate those carrying it forward.
And we invest in those who will build what comes next.

The legacy continues.
