Happy World Bicycle Day 2026!

Today we celebrate one of the simplest, most sustainable forms of transportation—a bicycle. Whether you're commuting to work, exploring your community, exercising, or simply enjoying the outdoors, every ride helps reduce emissions, improve air quality, and support a healthier planet.

Bicycles connect people to their communities while promoting physical health and environmental sustainability. Choosing to ride, even for short trips, can make a meaningful difference.

So grab your helmet, hit the trail, and enjoy the ride! Where will your bike take you today?

Find out about that question and others at the next Houston Sierra Club meeting in person!

June 11 at 7:30 pm at United Way on Waugh Drive. Doors open at 7 for social time!

Having paddled canoes and kayaks on Houston’s waterways for some time, Tom Douglas had noticed that many of them flow from west to east. Many of the world’s rivers must make detours on their way to the sea, but why have so many of ours veered off to the east at places where their southward path toward the Gulf appears to have been blocked? After considerable reading and consulting with a couple of bona fide fluvial geomorphologists, he learned the answer.

Come to the meeting for his answers!
