🚨 Comment on EPA’s Coal Ash Rule Rollback due Friday June 12 by 10:59PM CST

Comment here: SC.ORG/COALASH or bit.ly/EPACARComment

The EPA has proposed a new rule that broadly guts critical coal ash safety standards that protect our community and water from W.A. Parish. The EPA is hosting a public hearing where community members will comment on how this rollback will impact us. Share why we can’t live with unregulated coal ash dumps, contaminated groundwater, and why we deserve robust groundwater monitoring to protect us.

Fort Bend still has zero regulated air monitors. 🚨That’s a problem.

Despite being home to one of Texas’ top-polluting coal plants, our communities are forced to rely on self-reported emissions and outside data instead of local monitoring.

We deserve to know what’s in the air we breathe. 🌎💨

📢 ACTION — Email TCEQ by May 11ďż˝Subject: “Fort Bend Needs Air Monitoring”[email protected]
Ask for monitors in Fort Bend for:• Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)• Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)• Particulate Matter (PM2.5)• Ozone

Share why this matters to you — your health, your family, your future 🤎

The EPA has proposed a new rule that broadly guts critical coal ash safety standards that protect hundreds of communities around the country located near coal plants — and the public hearing to register our strong opposition is coming up fast. We need as many voices as possible testifying on behalf of the communities most affected, like Fort Bend and Houston.

To help our community prepare, Earthjustice and Sierra Club are hosting an educational webinar on Monday, May 4 at 12pm CT.

Register at tinyurl.com/CAR-ROLLBACK today! After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. In one hour, you will learn:

• What the EPA’s coal ash rollback will do to harm to our water resources and communities across the U.S.

• Which communities are most at risk — and why this rollback is so dangerous

• How to write and deliver public testimony at the EPA’s public hearing on May 28 and for the written comment period ending June 12

This is your chance to show up informed and make a real difference. We strongly encourage you to attend, especially since W.A. Parish will be applying for their CCR (coal combustion residuals) permit later this year.

You read that right! Mega Polluter NRG also owns Green Mountain Energy. This is textbook GREENWASHING 🤢

While you hope you’re choosing the least harmful choice as a consumer, companies like NRG are misleading the public and hide behind subsidiary companies like Green Mountain Energy to seem more environmentally aligned. However, the reality is far from it.
