What does it look like to truly invest in community?

Community is more than where you live. Investing in community looks like creating space where culture is not only preserved, but actively experienced.
Houston Community Land Trust invites you to the opening of our first Quarterly Art Exhibition, an ongoing series in partnership with Project Row Houses and Third Ward Cultural District.

The first exhibition centers Third Ward through photography by Tomii Culmer, Marc Furi, and Jakayla Monay. Each piece reflects part of the history, identity, and lived experiences that continue to shape one of Houston’s most culturally significant communities.

For Houston Community Land Trust, community is not just a focus. It is the foundation. Our work is rooted in strengthening communities in ways that honor the people, stories, and culture that define them.

This exhibition is one expression of that commitment.

We invite you to join us for an evening of reflection, connection, and community.

🌸🐣 Come out for a Day of Community & Celebration! 🐣🌸

The 12th Annual South Park Easter Egg Hunt is happening this Saturday, April 4th from 1PM–4PM at the Crestmont Park Community Center!
Hosted in partnership with community leaders including Rashad Cave, this FREE event will feature:

✨ Food
✨ Spacewalks
✨ Games & prizes
✨ Music
✨ Free turkey necks (while supplies last!)

We’re proud to share that Vatesha Perry, Board Member of Houston Community Land Trust, and Director of Programs Desmond Calloway both have deep ties to the Sunnyside/South Park community. Their connection reflects Houston CLT’s commitment to uplifting neighborhoods beyond housing.

Through our stewardship program, Houston CLT supports community engagement through volunteerism, partnerships, and donations—because our mission goes beyond homeownership, mixed-use development, and commercial spaces. It’s about preserving communities and bringing people together to create stronger, more connected neighborhoods.

Special thanks to Rashad Cave for the invitation to support this impactful event!

Understanding begins with access. Houston Community Land Trust convened Media Day with Community Media to engage directly with journalists, storytellers, and content creators shaping how land and community conversations are understood across Houston. Permanent land stewardship is nuanced. It cannot be reduced to a headline or a single statistic. By walking through neighborhoods, sharing structure transparently, and
creating space for direct dialogue, Media Day was designed to ensure that
the Community Land Trust model is communicated with clarity and
context.

In a city experiencing sustained growth and reinvestment, how land is
described publicly influences how it is valued, governed, and protected. Accurate storytelling strengthens civic decision-making. Land stewardship is long-horizon work. So is public understanding.

On March 18th Houston Community Land Trust welcomed journalists and creators from across Houston for our Media Day Bus Tour. Together we traveled through several neighborhoods, heard directly from residents, and shared how the Community Land Trust model works in practice here in Houston.

For us, protecting place and price means keeping land from being resold at rising market prices so families and communities can remain rooted where their lives are already built. As conversations around affordability continue, helping people clearly understand how Community Land Trusts work is an important part of our work. Thank you to Houston Community Media and all of the journalists who joined us today, asked thoughtful questions, and took the time to experience Houston Community Land Trust firsthand.

The RRODEOHOUSTONHouston Livestock Show and Rodeo wrapped up Sunday, but we couldn't let the season slip away without taking a moment to recognize the power of partnership.

Thank you to Huntington Bank for hosting Houston Community Land Trust, Executive Director, Ashley Allen and Board Member Zoe Middleton in your suite during this iconic Houston tradition.

We are especially appreciative of Clarence White, Government Banking Relationship Manager for the invitation. Our relationship, established more than five years ago with Cadence Bank, continues to grow as we move forward together with Huntington.

We were also glad to connect with Amber Burton-Alfred, Director of Governmental Affairs for HAR, a trusted collaborator.

These moments reflect what meaningful collaboration looks like, relationships built on trust, shared values, and a commitment to strengthening communities across Houston.

The Community Land Trust model is
Black History.

The founders of the 1st CLT, in the United States, New Communities, Inc. understood the power of collective, community ownership. In 1969 New Communities, Inc. was the largest tract of Black-owned land in the United States. Houston Community Land Trust stands on the shoulders of these visionaries continuing the movement of community owned and community governed land that is FOR the community!

Winter weather is fast approaching.
HCLT’s Stewardship Team is sending out communication and helping our 200 homeowners prepare for this weekend’s winter freeze to ensure they are prepared and their homes are protected. Our Stewardship team has worked hard to create processes and resources to support our homeowners in the case of severe weather, especially after 2024 when we got hit with 2 natural disasters within a few months. Our Stewardship program is essential in making sure HCLT homeowners are successful in homeownership.
