Eating Well with Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer 🍽️💙

Managing nutrition can be challenging when facing both diabetes and pancreatic cancer. But with the right approach, you can support your body while still enjoying food.

Key tips from oncology dietitian Jeannine Mills:

Choose complex carbohydrates like starches and fiber

Eat plant-based foods with plenty of fiber

Include protein and small amounts of healthy fats with every meal

Balance your plate with whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein

Keep a consistent schedule for meals and snacks

Important note: If you have low appetite or feel full quickly, don’t be too strict about limiting carbs. Your body needs energy. If you crave foods with refined sugar, eat them alongside other foods to balance blood sugar effects.

Before changing your diet, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network offers patient services to help you find a nutritionist with the right expertise.

Global Cancer Burden is Growing – And So is the Urgent Need for Action 🌍🎗️

A new WHO report released ahead of World Cancer Day paints a sobering picture:

In 2022 alone:
20 million new cancer cases
9.7 million deaths
53.5 million people alive within 5 years of a diagnosis

The most common cancers worldwide:
Lung (2.5 million new cases)
Breast (2.3 million)
Colorectal (1.9 million)

The hard truth about inequity: In countries with lower human development, a woman is 50% less likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer – but MUCH more likely to die from it. Why? Late diagnosis and lack of access to quality treatment.

The funding gap is staggering:

Only 39% of countries cover basic cancer management in their health benefits packages

Only 28% cover palliative care, including pain relief

And the future? By 2050, new cancer cases are projected to rise by 77% – over 35 million cases per year. The greatest proportional increases will hit low and medium-income countries (142% and 99% respectively).

The bottom line: Where you live should not determine whether you live. We need political will, sustainable funding, and global collaboration to ensure every person – everywhere – has access to affordable, quality cancer care.

Healing was never meant to be a solo journey. 💙

We live in a world that often tells us to be strong, to keep going, to handle things on our own. But the truth is, some weights are too heavy for one pair of shoulders. Some wounds need more than time, they need connection, understanding, and someone who simply says, "I'm here."

Healing begins when we stop healing alone.

When we let someone in. When we share the burden. When we admit that we don't have to have it all figured out. That's when the real work starts. That's when hope finds its way back in.

To every survivor carrying a silent weight: you don't have to carry it by yourself anymore. We're here.
