For the past thirty years, Teach For America has worked to find, develop, and support a diverse network of leaders who expand opportunity for children in classrooms, schools, and every sector and field that shapes the broader systems in which schools operate in Houston. In order to accomplish our mission of seeing that one day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an exc

ellent education, we recruit outstanding and diverse leaders who have demonstrated evidence of the values and leadership necessary to expand opportunity and access for all children inside and outside of the classroom. We ask leaders to make a lifelong commitment that begins with two years teaching in a public school, partnering with children and families most acutely impacted by educational inequity.

A night at the ballpark was the perfect way to welcome our 35th anniversary corps to Houston!

Our newest corps members connected with one another, enjoyed a delicious dinner, and heard from Emelda Douglas, Executive Director of the Astros Foundation, who welcomed them to Houston and highlighted the impact educators can have on students and communities. Our corps members also had the chance to win gift cards courtesy of our incredible supporters. To top it all off, the Astros beat the A’s and the evening ended with a spectacular fireworks show.

Thank you to the Astros Foundation for partnering with us to create such a memorable evening, and to our friends from Bank of America and Houston Endowment for joining us to welcome our newest corps members to the city.

We can’t wait to see the impact our 35th corps will have across Houston!
