Hope For Youth: From Former Fighters to Farmers Building Peace
In the Central African Republic, a group of 40 young men, once on opposite sides of armed conflict, are now working side by side growing food, earning income, and building stability through the Hope for Youth farming initiative, supported by Aegis Trust

After completing Aegis’ peace education program, these former Seleka and Anti-Balaka fighters chose a different path. With small loans, they launched a community farm that now spans three hectares and grows high-yield crops like tomatoes, eggplant, watermelon, and cassava.

The impact has been transformative:
• Children are back in school — families can now afford uniforms and supplies
•Daily food security — produce feeds families, and cassava provides a stable staple
•Healthcare access — earnings now cover malaria medication and basic treatment
• Women supported — local women buy produce at the farm and resell it for income

But with elections approaching in December, violence is expected to escalate. International markets will disappear. Families will face food shortages. The farm will be their lifeline.

That’s why the team’s next step is so important: A livestock expansion that will create recurring income and stability year-round.

For about $12,000, Hope for Youth can purchase animals, build secure structures, and hire a part-time vet, giving the community a sustainable income stream that can withstand instability.
This is how peace grows: seed by seed, skill by skill, choice by choice.

Today is the United Nations' International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of Genocide.

Today, we honor the dignity of those whose lives were devastated by genocide and reaffirm our commitment to building a world where such violence has no place.
At Aegis, remembrance is not passive.

It is a call to action:
*To preserve memory with integrity.
*To confront the risks of identity-based violence.
*To invest in peace education, trauma healing, and sustainable livelihoods so communities can thrive beyond conflict.

We remember the victims.
We stand with survivors.
And we continue the work every day, in every community we serve.

Why Memory Matters in Peacebuilding

Remembering is more than honoring the past. It protects the future. Aegis documents stories of survivors, rescuers, and witnesses to ensure that communities have the tools to recognize early warning signs of future atrocities.

Memory → Awareness → Prevention.

Try this: Ask an older relative or friend to share a memory that shaped them. Listening is an act of preservation.

White Rose Shops: Fashion That Fuels Peace

For more than 17 years, the White Rose Shops in Nottingham have been transforming pre-loved fashion into real, measurable impact. What started as a small charity shop created by two university graduates, Grace Walker and Angie Ford, is now a thriving social enterprise that has, to date, generated over $1M in revenue, which funds peace education, trauma healing, and community resilience programs through the Aegis Trust.

Here’s what makes White Rose extraordinary:

It’s fashion with purpose. Every donated piece, from designer jackets to everyday essentials, is hand-selected and sold affordably, with proceeds supporting Aegis programs that rebuild lives in post-conflict communities.

It creates opportunity. White Rose provides employment and training for local staff in the UK and is developing a supply chain that partners with women rebuilding their lives in Rwanda’s Mukoma Reconciliation Village.

It keeps clothing out of landfills. Tens of thousands of garments are diverted from waste every year, turning sustainability into practical impact.

But today, White Rose is at a critical turning point. Legacy debt and rising operational costs threaten the sustainability of the shops and the life-changing funding they provide. With support, White Rose can stabilize, grow, and fully integrate its supply chain with reconciliation villages like Mukoma, creating sustainable work for women who survived unimaginable violence.

If you believe in ethical fashion, community resilience, and purpose-driven impact, we would be grateful for your support.

Peace education isn’t just about teaching history; it’s about teaching human skills.

The Aegis model focuses on developing:
•Critical thinking (so manipulation is harder)
• Empathy (so “the other” feels human)
• Personal responsibility (so actions matter)

These are the protective factors that reduce violence long before it starts. This is prevention at its most practical.

Try: Work out your empathy muscle. Pause before reacting to a disagreement this week and ask, “What else could be true for them? What part of their experience am I not seeing yet?” A tiny empathy shift creates huge outcomes.
