Join us at the library to hear from renowned scholar and prolific author, Erin Cline who published two books in 2026. The Analects: A Contemporary Translation is a bold, innovative, and inviting translation of one of the most influential texts in human history. The Problem of God: The Challenges of Faith, Religion & Spirituality Today is a fascinating exploration of religious belief as the key to understanding ourselves and other people, societies, and cultures.
Erin Cline is the Paul J. and Chandler M. Tagliabue Distinguished Professor in Interfaith Studies & Dialogue at Georgetown University, where she teaches Chinese philosophy and comparative religion. Raised in Homer, Alaska, she holds a bachelors’ degree in Philosophy from Belmont and her M.A. and PH.D. in Philosophy from Baylor University.She lives near Washington, D.C. with her three children, and enjoys playing and singing bluegrass and traditional Irish music, and visiting Homer in the summers.

Watch young imaginations bloom this summer with our 2026 theme: Plant a Seed, Read! Just as seeds grow into vibrant plants, we’re helping young people grow into great readers. Participants will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty in the summer garden or branch out with exciting programs like music workshops, photography classes, and an ASL club. Whether they're making seed paper, displaying their Lego masterpieces, or playing games with friends, there's something for everyone to discover what 'takes root' for them!"

Thursdays July 2 - July 23, 4 - 5:30 p.m. Photography Workshop for Teens - Learn the basics of photography with Christopher Kincaid. Bring your own camera (a phone camera will work!)

Mondays, July 6 - July 27, 2-3 p.m. American Sign Language Club - Learn the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) with Sherry Pederson, as well as how to sign all about seeds, plants, and gardens. Registration required.

Monday July 6, 3:30 - 4:30 pm Kids Book Club - The Vanderbeekers and the Hidden Garden - Pick up your copy of the book at the library’s front desk. Registration required

Nature Journaling Workshop for Teens with Kristin Link science illustrator and author of "Discover the Art of Field Sketching."
Thursday, June 18, 2026 / 3:30 - 5:30 pm

In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore nature journaling as a way of paying attend to plants, animals, and landscapes around us. Kristin will share her own nature journal practice and what she includes in her daily sketchbook pages, from observations and questions to colored pencil drawing of natural history subjects. Participates will have guided time to make their own journal pages from real specimens and natural history references. No experience needed. All material provide.
