Hello!
SUMMER 2025 is upon us! We are planning a work party in conjunction with Homer Soil and Water Conservation on The Homestead Trail SUNDAY June 8, 2025 10 a.m. - 2ish
The winter crews were busy moving wood chips to strategic locations along the trail, and Sunday we will be moving them to some wet/muddy spots via sleds. It's pretty light work for the most part and many hands will make this quick work.
If you prefer to dig a trench, we have a few areas we would like to divert some standing water and would love to get those done on Sunday as well.
Please RSVP if you can come. [email protected] I will send you details on where to meet and what tools to bring if you can come. The work sites are less than a half hour walk from either trailhead so you will get a hike in too!
We will count on your presence if you reach out.
Thank you for your interest and involvement in improving Homer's hiking trails!!!
HIKE ON !

Earlier this summer, the Homer Cycling Club and Friends of Kachemak Bay State Park contracted with Ptarmigan Trails to design 11 miles of multiuse trails in Cottonwood Eastland State Park, 18 miles out East End Road. To fund construction, Homer Cycling Club is applying for a Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant and seeks public feedback. To support State Park trails on this side of the bay, please review the plan and map at www.homercyclingclub.org/cottonwoodeastland and send comments to [email protected] by October 31st. Your input is crucial to the project's success.

The new easement on the Canyon Rim Trail has been cleared creating a nice loop at the top. The entire loop section of the trail has been brushed. This is a 2 mile trail climbing 717ft. Views are spectacular with lots of roses, lupines, geraniums and other wildflowers. The trailhead is very clear with parking at the end of Bear Creek Court off Bear Creek Drive. Now that the work has been done, helpers will be needed to keep the trail open. Please contact HTA if you are willing to help.
