Come and experience the Iliad like you’ve never heard it before! ✨

This Friday, June 19th, Bunnell Arts by Air is thrilled to present Joe Goodkin performing The Blues of Achilles live at Bunnell!

A cycle of 17 original songs for guitar and vocals, this performance breathes modern life into ancient history. By telling the story of the Iliad through the raw, intimate perspectives of its iconic characters—Achilles, Patroklus, Briseis, and Helen—Goodkin evokes the ancient oral tradition of the epic bards, translating millennia of human emotion into a powerful, contemporary musical experience.

Whether you’re deeply immersed in Greek epic or just curious to see and hear a new take on an ancient story, this event is for you.

We are celebrating another successful season of Bunnell’s Artists in Schools program! This past winter, over 200 students at West Homer Elementary studied Chinese brush painting with artist —integrating history, culture, and technique into a beautiful final gallery.

“This residency was not only about learning a cultural art form. It was about cultivating focus, discipline, and confidence. Through the deliberate practice of Chinese brush painting, students discovered that a single committed stroke can hold strength, grace, and courage, and so can they.” – Sharlene Cline

Since 2000, AIS has connected professional artists with KPBSD classrooms to inspire local youth and meet Alaska arts education standards.

🙏 Deep gratitude to the schools, families, artists, and partners who sponsor this work.

We are looking forward to hosting Joe Goodkin in concert!

5 years almost to the day after bringing my Odyssey to Homer (Alaska) I’ll do the same with The Blues of Achilles.

Special thanks to Bunnell Street Arts Center for being an amazing venue in a special community. More thanks to KBBI AM 890 for co-sponsoring and broadcasting the show live. Even still more thanks to the Society for Classical Studies for supporting my travel with a(nother) generous Ancient Worlds Modern Communities grant.

Cannot wait to return and play more Homer in this beautiful place!

Right now, Washington, D.C. is getting a beautiful taste of Homer, Alaska and Slovenia! 🏛️✨

Homer's Carla Klinker and Slovenian artist Tina Konec are in the nation's capital this week (June 2-6) for the first-ever Transatlantic Stars initiative gathering at the Eaton Hotel! They’re currently exhibiting the incredible collaborative work they created together right here during Tina’s residency at Bunnell.

Transatlantic Stars is a wonderful new initiative by the European Union Delegation to the United States, pairing five European artists with five U.S. artists who all share a deep love for landscape. We are so excited to see Carla and Tina sharing their vision alongside pairs from North Carolina, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Minnesota.

We are so excited for them and can't wait to see more photos from the exhibition! 🏔️✨
