Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges Get Involved! Do you love Alaska and all that the land gives us? BE A FRIEND! It all started with a small group of local Alaskan residents. JOIN US!

The Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges promote the conservation of all 16 National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska through education and outreach, advocacy, and direct support - volunteering and financial. They were wildlife enthusiasts, public land supporters, and volunteers at the Kenai and Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuges. Together, they formed the Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges (FANWRs) in November 2005. From its inception, the organization’s founders aimed to serve all 16 of Alaska’s National Wildlife Refuges, which span the state’s vast and vibrant landscapes and coastlines. https://alaskarefugefriends.org/join/

Did you miss it? We recorded it and you can find it here. https://alaskarefugefriends.org/emperor-geese/
266 attended this weeks's talk by Robyn Thomas, "From Kodiak to the Aleutians: Researching Emperor Geese on the edges of their Wintering Grounds". Great presenter, beautiful photos and important information about Alaska's goose. Emperor geese not only nest in Alaska mainly on the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, they also winter in Alaska along the coast of Kodiak, Alaska Peninsula, Izembek and Alaska Maritime national wildlife refuges.

How will climate change affect Arctic species like those that migrate or live year-round in the Arctic Refuge? Scientists are studying white-crowned sparrows, feltleaf willows, Arctic grayling, an aquatic mayfly and a ground beetle to see how they are adapting.

"Mist-netting for birds, scrubbing rocks for algae, assembling genomes, and trucking grayling eggs down the Dalton Highway, scientists hope, will eventually allow them to forecast how this fragile place at the top of the world might manage to persist under the weight of immense change."
