Thank you for all the baby salmon lovin' at Homer's Solstice Fair last weekend! 🐟💚

We loved connecting with our community and sharing why salmon habitat protection matters. Healthy salmon runs depend on healthy lands and clean water, which is why Kachemak Heritage Land Trust works to conserve and steward lands that protect streams, wetlands, forests, and the watersheds that support salmon throughout their lives.

By protecting these places today, we're helping ensure that future generations can continue to fish, harvest, and enjoy the salmon that are such an important part of life on the southern Kenai Peninsula.

KHLT's participation in this event was funded, in part, by a Department of Environmental Conservation Alaska Clean Water Actions Grant 25-02.

The Conservation Fund has permanently protected the last private land on Nuka Island, expanding Kachemak Bay State Park and securing coastal wildlife habitat along Alaska's Gulf Coast.

💧🌿 Big news for Homer's Beluga Wetlands!

Thanks to a partnership between the , Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (), and Kachemak Heritage Land Trust, 26.5 acres of wetlands have been permanently protected. This marks the first completed acquisition in the City's "Sponge" project—an effort to conserve wetlands that naturally absorb, slow, and filter stormwater before it reaches Kachemak Bay.

These wetlands do more than manage stormwater—they help protect water quality, support wildlife habitat, reduce erosion, and provide important winter habitat for moose. By protecting these lands today, we're investing in a healthier, more resilient Homer for generations to come.

KHLT was honored to help facilitate this conservation effort and is grateful to longtime Homer resident Mike Kennedy for his commitment to permanently protecting this special place.

Together, we're conserving the natural heritage of the Kenai Peninsula—one property at a time. 💚

🫎 Fact Friday!

Moose calves can gain up to 2–3 pounds a day during their first few months of life!

This week, our team was treated to a special sight outside the office window—a mama moose and her calf. Moose rely on healthy habitats for food, shelter, and raising their young, making conserved lands an important part of supporting Alaska's wildlife.

Moments like these are a reminder of why land conservation matters.
